    There has been much interest in the study of degeneration of Riemann surfaces. If genus of general fibers is small, it is well known that classification of singular fibers is completed by Kodaira[K]. The author is making a computer software 'Mr. Monomie' to calculate homeo-types of singular fibers and their monodromies. The latest version of this software is 1.4i. In this paper we introduce how to use this software, some algorithms in the programm, and some applications for topological problems.

    本研究の目的は,高等学校数学科における「授業研究コミュニティ」の質的・量的成長を促す理論とシステムを構築し,その有効性を実証することである.そのために,4つのWGで組織し,それぞれでの研究を開始した.具体的には,目指す授業像や研究協議会像を共有するワークショップを開発する「スタート支援WG」,授業をデザイン,実施,観察,協議するためのフレームワークを開発したり,指導案検討会や研究協議会における司会および指導助言をするためのフレームワークを開発する「フレームワークWG」,司会や指導助言者の育成システムを構築する「リーダー育成WG」,そして授業研究を行う「授業研究推進WG」である.
    2023年度は,特にフレームワークWGにおいて,授業をデザイン,実施,観察,協議するためのフレームワークを開発した。具体的には,教材研究の視点とその視点で教材研究するための問いを提示した。ただし,「教材研究」を学習指導案を作成する前の段階(教材研究Ⅰ)と作成する段階(教材研究Ⅱ)とに分け,教材研究Ⅰの視点と問いを作成した。そして,2月に全体会を開き,作成したフレームの理解を深めるとともに,コミュニティの質的・量的拡大という観点からの使い方等を検討した。2024年度にこのフレームワークを各セクターで試行することを確認した。また,授業研究推進WGでは,各セクターにおいて授業研究を実施し,それぞれのセクターにおける成果と課題を明らかにした。

    In this study, a group of teachers who conduct lesson study of "how to learn type" is called "lesson study community", and the purpose is to clarify the formation requirements and processes.
    We held 23 lesson studies in the four sectors of Hokkaido, Tohoku, Chukyo, and Kyushu, and analyzed the data. As a result, we found the effective to show a prototype of lesson study based on problem-solving lessons in order to understand both "problem-solving lessons" and "understanding of lesson studies" at the start of forming a lesson study community. It was also found the effective, in the initial stage of formation, researchers provide some advices on developing the lesson plan, show the viewpoint of lesson observation, and encourage the reflection on the lesson study after the post lesson discussion.

    In this research, I treated several topics in mathematical crystallography. Especially motivated by the recent development in systematic design of crystal structures, I discussed interesting relationships among seemingly irrelevant subjects; say, standard crystal models, tight frames in the Euclidean space, rational points on Grassmannian, and quadratic Diophantine equations. The central object in this study is what I call crystallographic tight frames, which are considered a generalization of root systems. I also made a remark on the connections with tropical geometry, a relatively new area in mathematics, specifically with combinatorial analogues of the Abel-Jacobi map and Abel's theorem.
    What is more, I explained how the idea of Riemann sum is linked to other branches of mathematics; for instance, some counting problems in elementary number theory and the theory of quasicrystals, the former having a long history and the latter being an active field still in a state of flux.

    In this research, the system named KeTCindy which converts the graphical output of the dynamic geometry software Cinderella into TeX graphical code is developed. KeTCindy enables learners to synchronize the interactive operation on mathematical models and mathematical reasoning via its static counterpart. As research ingredients, calculus classrooms and associated teaching materials were carefully designed. The educational effect of this collaborative system has been researched through the ethnomethodological studies on the behaviors and worksheets of learners. To visualize the transition of learners behaviors, Sportscode system was used. As a result, it has been indicated that the qualitative change in learners' understanding of the mechanism behind mathematical models can be detected through the encapsulation of their behavior and the simplification of their solution process to the given tasks.

    KeTpic is a plug-in for a mathematical software to make a class material with figures using TeX. In order to share a figure file created by KeTpic between KeTpic users, they needed the KeTpic programming style. We have looked into many KeTpic programs, and we found nine requirements for making a KeTpic program. These requirements have created a new system KeTCindy, and we launched a portal site called "Making of Teaching Materials with Figures by KeTCindy".

    Geometric objects of present research are given in various forms such as algebraic equations, complex analytic functions and differential equations. Starting from discrete data of surfaces we investigated a method to compute optimal values of invariants in differential geometry such as Gauss curvature and mean curvature. In the process of constructing geometric models it turns out that it is efficient to include information about normal direction at each point and we established techniques to construct models based on such enhanced data. We succeeded in constructing models of 27 lines on a cubic surface and a surface of constant negative curvature made of aluminum with high accuracy. We obtained a satisfactory procedure to establish an interface for constructing models from discrete data.

    The primarily purpose of this project was to provide a mathematical insight into the modern crystallography, a typical practical science that originated in the classification of the observed shapes of crystals. The tools we employed are adopted from algebraic topology, a field in pure mathematics cultivated during the first half of the last century. More specifically the elementary theory of covering spaces and homology is effectively used in the study of 3D networks associated with crystals. Further we formulate a minimum principle for crystals in the framework of discrete geometric analysis, which provides us with the concept of standard realizations, a canonical way to place a given crystal structure in space so as to produce the most symmetric microscopic shape. In spite of its pure-mathematical nature, this concept combined with homology theory turns out to fit with a systematic design and enumeration of crystal structures, an area of considerable scientific interest for many years. Meanwhile, standard realizations show up in asymptotic behaviors of random walks on topological crystals, the abstraction of crystal structures, and are closely related to a discrete analogue of Abel-Jacobi maps in algebraic geometry.

    数理科学研究科が所蔵する石膏の幾何学模型についての調査を行い,荒木義明,山田恭弘らと共同で現代の技術によって,定曲率曲面および代数曲面の模型を作成する手法を確立した.これらの模型は森美術館における,写真家杉本博司の回顧展の際に,杉本による模型の写真とともに公開された.本年度は,Clebsch diagonal surfaceとよばれる3次曲面の模型をアルミニウムを素材として製作した.これは種数3の曲面で,その上に27本の直線が存在することが知られている.直線を視覚化するための技術的な問題点を検討した.
    坪井は,葉層構造を視覚化するアニメーションを製作し,教育および研究発表における新しいプレゼンテーションの手段を開発した.Martin Guestは平均曲率が一定な曲面の変形族を,可積分系の立場から研究した.さらにこれらの成果をコンピュータプログラムとして実装することを試みた.また,曲面を視覚化する3D-XplorMathというソフトウェアを開発した.阿原はコンピュータを用いて4次元クライン群の極限集合を研究し,また,幾何学の研究をサポートするいくつかのソフトウェアの開発に携わった.

    Let Y and Y' be a pair of curve segments in an n dimensional sphere, and let x, x+dx be points on Y and y, y+dy be points on Y'. We allow the case when Y and Y' coincide, when we always assume that x and y are distinct. By identifying a 2 dimensional sphere through the four points x, x+dx, y, and y+dy with the Riemann sphere through a stereographic projection, we obtain the cross ratio of these four points. Then it can be considered as a complex valued 2-form on YxY'. We call it the infinitesimal cross ratio of Y and Y'. It is, by definition, invariant under Moebius transformations.
    We obtained new interpretations of the real and the imaginary parts of the infinitesimal cross ratio.
    An n dimensional sphere can be realized as the set of points a infinity of the light cone in (n+2) dimensional Minkowski space. Let S(n, p) denote the set of p dimensional sphere in the n dimensional sphere. Then S(n, p), which can be expressed in terms of Pluecker coordinates, is a space with an indefinite metric. A pair of curve segments Y and Y' in the n dimensional sphere can also be considered as a surface in S(n, O). Now the real part of the infinitesimal cross ratio is equal to the absolute value of the area element of this surface.
    On the other hand, the interpretation of the imaginary part can be given as follows. An n dimensional sphere can be considered as the boundary of the (n+1) dimensional hyperbolic space. Let L denote a geodesic in the hyperbolic space joining points x on Y and y on Y' in the boundary sphere, and let P be an orthogonal hyperplane to L. Let x' and y' be points in neighborhoods of x and y respectively. The intersection of P and the geodesic joining x' and y' gives a surface in P. Then the imaginary part of the infinitesimal cross ratio at (x, y) is equal to the area element of this surface.
    We also defined functionals on the space of curves and surfaces using a conformally invariant measure on the space S(n, p).

    本研究は,トポロジーにおける実験数学の研究形態のプロトタイプを提案することを主眼として,この1年間企画調査を行った.
    当初の予定通り,夏にイギリスを訪問し,Experimental Mathematics誌の初代編集長であったD.Epstein教授,および実験数学を代表する書物Indra's Pearlsの著者のであるC.Series教授,D.Wright教授とトポロジーにおける実験数学の現状について意見交換し,米国および英国の情報を収集した.その結果,実験数学の裾野が拡がる過程では,実装するアルゴリズムに話を絞るのが数学上の問題と計算上の問題を同じ土俵で議論するのに有効であり,さらに協調的な実験数学の研究につながる例が多かったことを知った.
    そこで12月に予定していた研究集会「トポロジーとコンピュータ」は,このことを念頭においてプログラムを組み東工大で開催した.とくに,多項式解法プログラムの作成者と基本群の表現の研究者の共同研究の発表では,当初は違う問題を解く目的で設計されたアルゴリズムがこの場合に妥当であるかどうかを,実験成果だけからでなくより実証的に示せないかなどの,数学と計算の双方で新たな課題が出るという討論の展開があった.
    確かにアルゴリズムは,論証を重んじる数学と技術を重視する計算を結びつけるスポットであり,それを主役に置くことにが実験数学の研究およびその発表形態のプロトタイプになり得ることが確認できた.今後はこの企画調査の成果を,サマースクール形式でのプログラミング技術講習会,およびアルゴリズム指向の新しい研究集会の企画につなげ,平成17年度に実行に移す予定である.

    The present research is the Bloch theory for crystal lattices, which are infinite graphs to be introduced to describe, in an abstract way, how the atoms in a crystal are bound to each other by internal force. Crystalline structure is embodied by the presence of certain abelian group actions on graphs. Our interest is in geometry and analysis of the discrete Laplacians (and their magnetic or elastic versions) on crystal lattices as a special class of difference operators. Especially we have studied asymptotic behaviors of random walks, and established a large deviation property in view of geometry. The method we took up is a real version of Bloch theory. We could relate the large deviation property to a rational convex polyhedron in the first homology group of a finite graphs, which has remarkable combinatorial features, and show up also in the Gromov-Hausdorff limit of a crystal lattice.

    During the term of the project, we have made quite a good progress on the problem of splitting a given complicated singular fiber into a number of simpler singular fibers. Among others, we would like to point out Arakawa and Ashikaga's proof of the splittability of hyperelliptic singular fibers and Takamura's research on the construction of splitting families for not necessarily hyperelliptic singular fibers, Takamura being a cooperative researcher. An experimental method is also very important to the study of splitting of singular fibers. In fact Ahara developed a software "Splitica" by which we can observe the splitting motion of "star-shaped" singular fibers on a computer display. As for the global study of monodromy, Imayoshi, Ito, and Yamamoto made a research from function theoretic viewpoint. Also the quandle of cords which might be important to the study of Lefschetz fibrations, Kamada and Matsumoto studied their algebraic representation. There are obtained many other related results.

    Roughly speaking, energy of knots is a functional on the space of knots which fulfills the property that it explodes whenever a knot degenerates to a singular knot with double points. During the period of the project, we have studied this concept of energy functional together with Prof. R. Langevin of Universit de Bourgogne mainly to clarify the correspondence between our introduced functional E and the one due to Prof. Langevin which is contrived from the viewpoint of integral geometry. As a result, considering the notion of infinitesimal cross-ratio, we described the energy E in terms of its real-part and its absolute value, and also obtained a formula which describes Langevin's introduced quantity. Furthermore, we newly introduced several conformally invariant functional from a discussion independent of the approach of infinitesimal cross-ratio and integral geometry.
    Besides the observation above, we also direct our attention to a strong analogy between the assignment of algebraic invariant of knots and the assignment of denotation of programs containing recursive-calls, and especially study the general mechanism of denotational semantics of cyclic structures appearing in the syntax of programs. In consequence, we obtained an algebraic structure which enables us to model not only the computational paradigm of (type-free) λ-calculus but the internal structure of functional body. Our construction can be regarded as enough simple in comparison with some known results, and so we expect to find a neat relationship to the discussion of energy of knots through a general framework, such as the theory of traced monoidal categories.

    The aim of the present research project was to study the relation between the structure of the multi-fan of a torus manifold and invariants of the manifold. In the course of research we succeeded in developing a general theory of combinatorics of multi-fans in a form suited to be applied to topological problems of torus manifolds. In this sense the original aim was attained. Main results will be stated in the following.
    1. We defined a notion of TィイD2yィエD2 genus of a multi-fan, and showed that it coincides with the ordinary TィイD2yィエD2 genus of torus manifolds for multi-fans of the torus manifolds. We further showed an equality concerning the TィイD2yィエD2 genus similar to the one which holds between so-called h-vectors and f-vectors in combinatorics. Our formulation might be considered to give a new interpretation for the old quation.
    2. We introduced the notion of multi-polytope in addition, and defined the Duistermaat-Heckman function and the winding number for multi-polytope. It was shown that the Duistermaat-Heckman function and the winding number determined each other. This generalizes a result known for multi-polytopes associated to torus manifolds. We also gave a generalization of multiplicity formula to the case of multi-fans.
    3. Using the Duistermaat-Heckman function of a multi-fan a generalization of the Ehrhart polynomial is obtained. We showed the coefficient of the highest degree term coincided with the column of the multi-polytope and the constant term coincided with the Todd genus of the multi-polytope. The duality of the Ehrhart polynomial was also shown.
    4. The Ehrhart polynomial of a convex polytope is closely related to the Riemann-Roch number of the corresponding ample line bundle over the relevant toric variety. In order to generalize this phenomenon to the case of multi-fans and multi-polytopes we defined the equivariant cohomology and Gysin homomorphism, and obtained a cohomological formula of Ehrhart polynomial.

    2次元多様体が有限な胞体分割を持つと仮定する。ここで、我々は、「組合せ論的カーブショートニング」という新しい問題を考える。つまり、「デジタルカーブ」を「胞体の頂点を通らず、胞体の辺と交差的に有限図交わる多様体上の曲線のホモトピー類」と定義し、デジタルカーブの書き換え系のうち以下の条件をすべて満たすものを「(良い)カーブショートニング書き換え系」と呼ぶことにする。
    (a)有限の書き換えから構成される。(b)デジタルカーブの長さを長くしない(c)完備である。(=書き換えのループが発生しない。)(d)ホモトピー合流性(=多様体上ホモトピックな2つの曲線は、合流する。)
    胞体分割が、オーソゴナルの場合、トリバレントな場合についての研究はほぼ完了した。胞体分割が双曲的、又はユークリッド的な場合には、カーブショートニング書き換え系は存在する。

    What I want to do in my research is to study certain ring-structures (such as Buchsbaumness, Cohen-Macaulayness, or Gorensteinness) of Rees algebras associated to ideals in Noetherian local rings, from the view-point of the corresponding properties of their associated graded rings. In [G1] I gave a characterization for the Rees algebras associated to m-primary ideals of minimal multiplicity in Cohen-Macaulay local rings (A, m) to be Buchsbauxn rings, in terms of the corresponding property of the associated graded rings and the extended Rees algebras as well. As a byproduct of this research I constructed a counterexample to the negative a-invariant conjecture raised by Korb-Nakamura, concerning a question on the Cohen-Macaulayness in Rees algebras. Igave a lecture about the examples in the International Conference on Commutative Algebra in honor of David Buchsbaum (the third period, Genova) in Italy ([G2]). Also, K.Yarnagishi [Y] generalized the techniques in [G1], and gave a striking criterion for the associated graded rings of m-primary ideals in Buchsbaum local rings to be Buchsbaum, in terms of the Buchsbaum invariant. He gave a talk about this criterion at the International Conference on Commutative Algebra in honor of David Buchsbaum (the first period, Catania) in Italy, which I organized as one of the organizers. I am also interested in non-commutative algebra and performed ajoint research with Kenji Nishida. Someof the results will appear in [GN1, GN2].

    The existence of solutions to the stationary Navier-Stokes equations is known, in general context, only under the stringent outflow condition or for small Raynolds number. We studied the existence of solutions to the stationary Navier-Stokes equations and of the Boussinesq equations under general outflow condition. We obtained two kinds of results. For arbitrary space dimension and for the boundary value of constant p times gradient of harmonic function, the existence of solution for the above equations is shown except for at most discrete countable case of p. It is to be noted that p can be arbitrary large.
    For two dimensional case, under the assumption of symmetry, Amick showed the exis tence of solutions. Fujita obtained the concrete construction of the solenoidal symmetric extension of the boundary value in this case. Using this method, Morimoto and Fujita obtained the existence of solutions to the stationary Navier-Stokes equations in a tube-like domain with inflow and outflow.

    本研究の長期的な目標は特異点解消の代数的方法の開発にある。非特異化問題の難解さに鑑み、当面の課題を比較的容易であると予想されるCohen-Macaulay化など特異点を段階的に改良する理論的方法の開発に置く。基礎研究拡充のために、幾何学を専門領域とする服部・阿原と密接な連絡をとりつつ、Rees代数(blow-up rings)の環構造の研究を基本に、blowing-upを手法とする特異点改良の研究を行った。成果としては、Gorenstein局所環内の解析的差数1のイデアルに関しては、その随伴次数代数の環構造のGorenstein性について注目すべき知見が得られた(S.Goto,Y.Nakamura and K.Nishida,On the Goresteinness of graded rings associated to certain ideals of analytic deviation 1,to appear in Japan.J.Math.)。平行して一般的なCohen-Macaulay局所環内のイデアルに随伴する次数環のCohen-Macaulay性の研究を行い、納得すべき一般的な状況下で実際的な判定条件を記述するに至った(S.Goto,Y.Nakamura and K.Nishida,Cohen-Macaulayness in graded rings associated to ideals,J.Math.Kyoto Univ.,36(1996),229-250及びCohen-Macaulay graded rings associated to ideals,Amer.J.Math.,118(1996),1197-1213)ことは収穫である。他に、有限群をRees代数に作用させその不変部分環のCorenstein性を随伴次数環の不変部分環の言葉で簡潔に記述することに成功した(居相真一郎・後藤四郎:有限群のRees代数への作用とその不変部分環のGerenstein性について、明治大学科学技術研究所紀要,35(1996),59-70)のみでなく、minimal multiplicityを持つイデアルのRees代数のCohen-Macaulay性を解析し(S.Goto,S.-i.Iai,and Y.Nakamura,Cohen-Macaulayness versus the negativitiy of a-invariants in Rees algebras associated to ideals of minimal multiplicity to appear in Mem.Inst.Sci.&Tech,Meiji Univ.)、Rees代数のBuchsbaum性の研究に関する端緒(S.Goto,Buchsbaumness in Rees algebras associated to ideals of minimal multiplicity,Preprint 1996)を掴むことができたことは、大きな収穫であったと思われる。

    本研究の主要課題であった指数の正値性について、研究代表者は次の結果を得た。
    まず,シンプレクティック多様体におけるGompfの構成における指数の和公式を発見し,それによってGompfの構成において正値性が保たれることを証明した.このことは,正値性の成り立つシンプレクティック多様体の範囲が相当に広いことを示すものである.また,4次元シンプレクティック多様体においては,Taubesの結果を授用することにより,しかるべき制約の下に正値性が常に成り立つことを示した.これらは投稿中の論文“Posi-tive line bundles and Gompf's coustruction"の主結果である.
    また,もう一つの投稿論文“Positive line bundles and index"では,blowing up における指数の和公式(より正確には差公式)を見いだし,Kahler多様体の場合にはblowing upにおいて正値直線束に関する情報が一般のシンプレクティック多様体よりも正確につかめることを利用し、正値性に関するより精密な情報を得ることに成功した.すなわち,指数の正値性よりも正確な指数の下からの評価を導いた.さらに,これを均質Kahler多様体の場合に応用し,表現論における興味ある不等式を導いた.
    以上の結果は正値性が成り立つ方向でのものばかりであり,正値性が成り立たないシンプレクティック多様体はエキゾチックなものであろうと示唆するものではある.しかし,正値性が常に成り立つかどうかは未解決であり,今後の研究はその未解決問題の解決に向けられるべきものと考えている.

  • 平均曲率流による曲面の発展方程式とシミュレーション

    研究を次のように段階に分けた。
    第一に、平面上の曲線についてcurve shortening problemの数値解析を行うこと。これは、当初の計画より、等高面によるviscosity solutionの解析を計画していた。解析的に証明されていた事実として、「平面上に埋め込まれた閉曲線のcurve shorteningは正円に収束する(Grayson)」が知られているので、このことを数値解析的に実証することを目標とした。そのために、(a)与えられた閉曲線を等高面に持つような(できるだけ自然な)平面上の関数を作る。(b)curve shortening problemのスキームを制作する。という2段階に分けて考え、今年度においては、(a)についてのプログラムをつくり、実用的なものにした。基本的なアイディアは、与えられた曲線を台に持つような関数の初期値問題に持ち込めばよい。(b)の基本的な枠組み(実行可能なスキームの作成)を桂田祐史氏(明治大学)の研究を参考にした。
    第二に、空間上の曲面に対する平均曲率流についての数値解析を行うこと。これに先立って、2次元複素射影空間上に埋め込まれたリーマン面についての考察をした。空間上の閉じた曲面はcompactなリーマン面に他ならないが、それは代数曲線として2次元複素射影空間に埋め込まれている。2次元複素射影空間から3次元ユークリッド空間へのうまい射影によって、代数曲線が空間曲線になるかどうかを調べることが興味深い。
    与えられた空間曲線について、それを等高面とするような空間上の関数を作るプログラムも作成中である。アイディアとしては平面曲線と場合と同じである。
