10交点以下の素な結び目に対して、結び目群間の全射準同型の存在もしくは非存在についてを決定することが出来た。これまではメリディアンを保つ、すなわちメリディアンをメリディアンに写す全射準同型の存在と非存在については決定が出来ていた。それはメリディアンの情報があるため、全射準同型に強い条件が要請されていることになり、存在や非存在を決定することは、条件なしの全射準同型に比べて決定が容易であった。それに対して、今回は全射準同型の条件を付けずにその存在もしくは非存在を決定することが出来た。
特に非存在を証明するには結び目群から対称群への準同型を調べ、対称群の標準的な表現を合成させて得られるねじれアレキサンダー多項式を用いた。メリディアンを保つ全射準同型を考察する際はこの判定条件がさらに強い条件となっているので、比較的容易に判定することができ、実際にSL(2,Z/pZ)への表現を用いて確定することが出来た。しかし、メリディアンを保つとは限らない全射準同型の非存在を証明するためには、かなり大きな素数を用いてもSL(2,Z/pZ)への表現では非存在を確定することが出来ず、対称群への準同型とその標準的な表現を用いた。
このとき、SL(2,Z/pZ)と比べて、対称群の共役類分解をした際の共役類の元の個数が多いため、計算量は一般に多くなることが多い。また表現の次元もSL(2,Z/pZ)表現が常に2次元なことに比べて大きくなるため、行列式の計算も計算量が多くなる。 -
