<p>Searching, developing and assessing the highly potential global leaders under the circumstances of a rapidly-changing world are the critical and urgent research topics for researchers around the world. This article reviews foreign literature on the following three study phases: 1) behavioral traits and individual characteristics required for the global leaders (1990-); 2) methods to develop the global leaders (2005-); and 3) assessment scale of the global leadership and testing its effectiveness (2009-). The future research agendas are also discussed in the article.</p>

Leading international business requires the learning of global leadership competencies thatallow managers to flexibly navigate across cultures. This explorative study investigates the mechanismby which global leadership competencies are acquired from a meta-cognitive approach. Indepthinterviews and a web-survey were conducted in Asian and Europe. Results confirmed that 1)all managers faced new and difficult challenges during international business assignments, 2) the necessaryleadership competencies were both common and idiosyncratic across cultures, and 3) globalmanagers, regardless of their nationalities, experienced "double-loop learning" while acquiring newglobal leadership competencies though "breakthrough experiences" during international business assignments.

本稿では、グローバルリーダーのコンピテンシー学習モデルの獲得における「ダブルループ学習」の役割を検証
するため、人間行動の変化基盤となる（認知⇒態度⇒行動）の変容について、職務経験や組織環境、クリティカルインシデントの解決等の変数間の関係について、AMOSを用いた多変量因果関係モデルを用いて探索的に分析した。これにより、国間において文化的背景を反映した影響力関係は見られるものの、全体として変容プロセスが機能していることが検証された。

文化的背景に配慮した、環境適合型のリーダーシップの行動選択が、グローバルリーダーのパフォーマンスに繋がるであろうという拡散仮説にもとづくならば、各国に異なるコンピテンシーの組み合わせからなるグループ化が可能であろう。本稿では、上記の見地から、アジアの４カ国（日本、韓国、シンガポール、台湾）で実施したグローバルリーダーシップ・コンピテンシーのWebアンケート調査の結果にもとづき、Fazzy DEMATELの手法を用いて、各国に固有な影響力と関係性をもつコンピテンシーグループの分析を行った。分析結果から、各国に特徴的なコンピテンシー配置が見られたことから、各国のグローバルリーダー育成に向けて、影響力の強いコンピテンシーに特化した教育研修を導入することの有効性が示唆された。

本稿は、メタ認知理論の観点から、文化的背景の異なるグローバルリーダーが直面するクリティカルインシデントについて、どのような認知的プロセスを経て解決に至るのか、４カ国（日本、フランス、ドイツ、トルコ）12名のグローバルリーダーの事例を用いた探索的な国際比較研究である。定性的なコンテント分析の結果、異文化経営の現場では、国際横断的に既存の問題解決に向けたシングル・ループの他に、ブレークスルーにもとづくダブルループ学習にもとづく新たなコンピテンシー獲得の可能性が示唆された。この結果から、ブレークスルーを促進するような組織的支援の有用性が提言された。

Among East Asian countries, Japan and Korea have always been the two front runners in global business development in the last decades. This is supported by the fact that the overseas sales of the leading Japanese and Korean multinational companies contributed to more than 50% of the consolidated sales worldwide. To continuously succeed in global business, training and development of the next generation of global business leaders is essential for such multinational companies. However, the shortage of competent global leaders has been pointed out as one of the top critical HR issues in these global companies. Global competencies and mindsets, which are the basis for a sound cross-cultural management, is likely to start growing from the youth generation such as the high school age.
