本研究は、特に軽動詞 (light verb)が残留する省略現象(日本語の例:メアリーがビルにキスさ えした。ナンシーもした)に焦点を当て、「なぜ照応現象は音声的に不完全にも関わらず、 母語話者は一様の解釈可能性及び統語的特性を示すのか」という問題に取り組むものである。具体的には、当該の構文が示す抜き出しの可能性に関するパターンを比較統語論の見地から言語横断的に記述検討すると共に、生成文法理論の枠組みで当該のパターンを説明する理論を構築し、 理論言語学の中心的な課題の一つである「ヒトの言語知識の解明」に貢献することを目指している。2023年度は、特に前者の課題である言語横断的な経験的データの蓄積に焦点を当てて、研究活動を行った。具体的には、予備研究で行った韓国語の当該構文に加えて、モンゴル語の母語話者の方の協力を得て当該構文の統語的特性が日本語と同様（つまり、かき混ぜなどの顕在的抜き出しは不可能であるが、空演算子移動などの非顕在的抜き出しは可能である）であるかどうか確認を行っている。
後者の課題に関しては申請書にも明示したように、これまで「LFコピーで派生された省略現象には可視統語部門の操作が適用できない」という仮説を立て、抜き出しに関する顕在的移動と非顕在的移動の対比を説明しようと試みたが、近年Park (2017) “Where does ellipsis occur, and what is elided?” Ph.D. dissertation, University of Marylandによって 「非顕在的移動を音声的に影響のない移動と捉え、PF削除の観点から当該の抜き出しに関する対比を説明するアプローチ」が提案されている。今後データを拡充していく上で、そのデータと照らし合わせながらどちらの理論がより妥当なものであるか検討を行いたい。 -
