    This paper proposes discrete-state predictive control for multi-input-time-delay system. Discrete-state-
    predictive control is already established for single-input-multi-output systems. Unlike the single-input-time-delay systems, the future state of the systems cannot be determined because of the gap between each time delay. This paper establishes the discrete-state-predictive control for Multi-input systems and validates it in simulation.

    This paper proposes an estimation method for input-time-delay system with a long time constant by COV
    (COVariance factorization) method with the shift operation. While it is shown that time delay estimation for
    a system with a short time constant is possible by checking the order of the estimated model according to the
    shift operation, it is difficult to apply for a system with a long time delay because the orders are hardly changed
    according the time delay. In this paper, it is shown that the unstable zeros of the estimated model are the key
    role to estimate the time delay by simulation, and that simultaneous estimation of the time delay and model are
    possible by checking zeros of the system.

    In this research, the identification results for open-loop time delay systems are extended to closed-loop systems. It is shown that a subspace identification method used in open-loop systems can be applied to closed-loop systems. When the subspace identification method was used directly, problems such as increasing poles and unstable zeros caused by numerical errors were encountered; however, these problems can be prevented by a shift operation. Finally, the simulated identification results for the time delay system and the improved control performance using the estimated time delay are shown.

    This paper proposes system identification of time delay systems that have a long
    time constant. It is known that an identified model has an unstable zero with an internal delay.
    In particular, the distributed parameter system such as the heat conduction system has dynamic
    characteristics in not only time but space, and the approximate model is often described by the
    time delay system. It is shown that applying the subspace method to the heat conduction system
    makes a model with an unstable zero. By confirming the position of zero according to time-shift
    operation of the input-output data, the time delay can be identified.

    Seismic waves close to the resonant frequency of a structure cause the structure to exhibit large vibrations. The resonant frequency of the structure is determined by the value of stiffness (spring constant). As a method to shift the resonance frequency, the dynamic absorber using additional mass is well known; however, its performance is restrictive. A semi-active control is proposed by varying the stiffness, on the basis of the frequency, to shift the resonant frequency of the structure from that produced by the earthquake. Damping the effect of the semi-active control was verified by simulations and experiments using some seismic waves.

    In our paper Active-Passive Mass Damper are considered. The structure is the following; On the top of the vibration structure there are two additive cascaded masses, one mass denotes a Passive Mass Damper and the other one is an Active Mass Damper (AMD) on the passive mass damper. Switching control between TMD and AMD is expected better performance than ordinary AMD vibration control and TMD on the basis of the AMD's kinematic energy.

    This paper deals with an LQG control problem for input time delay systems using closed-loop identification. A virtual system is introduced to solve a spectral factorization, which does not include integral operator. The solution of the factorization is used as a prefilter of closed-loop identification. An iterative identification and control design method is applied and some numerical examples are shown.

    This paper deals with an iterative approach of closed-loop identification and IMC (internal model control) design for input time delay systems. IMC is one of simple design methods for systems with time delay, however, IMC requires system parameters exactly. In this paper, a joint design method of closed-loop identification and IMC structure for input time delay systems is proposed. The control purpose, which is similar to the windsurfer approach, is to achieve the increase in the bandwidth of the closed-loop system. A multiplicative uncertainty of input time delay systems becomes smaller, when an IMC filter time constant is chosen smaller. A simulation example is shown to illustrate these results.

    An inertia damper with a long spiral bypass pipe was developed in order to obtain a series inertia effects for<br />
    vibration suppression of structures in practical use. The damper comprised a cylinder, piston, and MR fluid.<br />
    The gap was spirally formed around the outside of a cylinder, and acted as a long bypass pipe. MR fluid is well<br />
    known for its changeable damping effect, but the mass of the fluid is the focus of this study. It is obvious from<br />
    previous studies that a fluid inertia effect is caused by quick motion in the long bypass pipe, and it depends on<br />
    the length of the bypass pipe, compression ratio of area, and density. A large inertia effect can be derived if the<br />
    fluid has a heavy mass. In order to confirm the inertia effect, a prototype damper was manufactured, and<br />
    resisting force characteristics were measured. Seismic response tests using a 3-story structure were then<br />
    performed using a shaking table with the damper installed. Each story of the structure had a height of 3 m, and<br />
    a weight of 6 tons with a total height of 9 m and a total weight of 18 tons. Several types of earthquakes were<br />

    A delta operator model is usually applied to identification problems with short sampling periods. To identify the system, we have to compute the difference of the input and output data in discrete time and design a noise filter. In this paper, we propose the delta operator model with the observable canonical form. By using this model, we can easily estimate the parameters of the delta operator model without the difference of the input and output data. We derive the Cramer Rao inequality, which evaluates the performance for estimating parameters in the proposed model.     It is known that LQG controller can be composed by using the state predictor for the input time delay system. Iterative design that improves the control performance of the closed-loop system has been proposed by repeating LQG control and closed-loop identification.     In this paper, we apply a turn over method for distributed parameter systems to a widely used heatexchanger system. The control law has both desirable properties of a pole assignment and an optimal control law, and the feedback gain is obtained without solving an infinite dimensional Riccati type differential equation. By this method, open loop poles existing in the right hand side of the turn over line are moved to the axial symmetry positions respecting to the turn over line drawn parallel to the imaginary axis, thus all closed loop poles are located in the specified region with desired degree of exponential stability. The distributed feedback law for a distributed heatexchanger system is proposed by using the technique without any approximation. We confirm by experiments that the constructed system has a short rise time and a short settling time. The state variables needed in the feedback law is estimated by a distributed observer. The distributed parameter observer is approximated by the method of weighted residuals and gives a good estimated value with only four sensors in the experiment.

    This paper develops a turn over method for distributed parameter systems that have infinite number of eigenvalues and can be stabilized by an eigen-function expansion technique. The technique has both desirable properties of a pole assignment and an optimal control law. The poles of the closed loop system which is controlled by the former law can be derived for distributed parameter systems and we can easily obtain the feedback gain without solving the infinite dimensional Riccati type differential equation. From the latter law, the obtained gain is of finite dimensional, but the optimal feedback minimizes a quadratic criterion for distributed parameter systems. The closed loop system obtained by the proposed turn over method can be interpreted as an LQ regulated system.<br>As result, the turn over method has both good properties of the two control laws and can shift only assigned open poles to desirable positions avoiding a difficult selection of a weight for an LQ regulator, and it gives a low sensitivity and a large stability margin to the closed loop system as well.

    This paper presents the experimental results for an inverted pendulum having a flexible arm with artificial time delay. State predictive control requires integral approximation. The approximation error increase depending on the approximation method, as a result it causes an unstable response. However, this problem can be solved using the low-pass approximations reported by L-Mirkin and the convolution approximation by reported by QC-Zhong in 2004. Our experiments have shown that the inverted pendulum with time delay is stabilized under approximating distributed delay control laws with the low-pass approximations and the convolution approximation. Furthermore, we show that the combination method that merged low-pass and convolution approximation from both features is more effective.

    This paper compares the conventional and proposed methods of time delay estimation. The conventional method determines the time delay by minimizing the loss function. Therefore, this conventional method directly considers the effect time delay makes in estimation. In this paper, the conventional and proposed methods are compared in estimating the time delay in case of fast response system and slow response system. It is shown that the conventional method is not appropriate in time delay estimation with slow response system by simulation. Finally, both time-delay models are compared in discrete state predictive servo control.

    This paper proposes an estimation method for time delay of a system with a long time constant.
    While it is shown that time delay estimation is possible by checking the order of the estimated model for a
    system with a short time constant, it is difficult to apply for a system with long time delay because the order
    hardly change according the time delay. In this paper, it is shown that the zeros of the estimated model are
    keys to estimate time delay by simulation, and that estimation of time delay is possible by checking zeros of
    the system.

The approximation error increase depending on the approximation method as a result it gives rise to an unstable response. However, this problem can be solved using the strictly proper approximations reported by L-Mirkin and the integral approximation via convolution reported by QC-Zhong in 2004. Our experiments have shown that the inverted pendulum with time delay is stabilized under approximating distributed delay control laws with the strictly proper approximations and the integral approximate by convolution. We will examine the efficiency and practical use of the above system and method.

    A dynamic vibration absorber is used for the purpose of preventing resonance phenomena of structures. But a passive mass damper is not effective except for the specific requency. Therefore, if there exists several modes, it is generally used several passive mass damper to suppress two or more modes of vibration. In this paper, it aims at restraining the primary and secondary modes by one semi-active dynamic absorber installed on the top of the two degrees of freedom structure. The semi-active dynamic absorber consists of a mass, springs, and air dampers. The air damper can be changed the damping and stiffness by changing the aerial inflow amount. In this paper, vibration control is performed by switching two parameters which aims at restraining the primary and secondary modes by H infinity norm.

    The author developed a vibration suppression device that utilized magneto-rheological fluid (MR fluid) and long bypass pipe in order to get an effect of series inertia mass. The inertia effect due to the series inertia mass makes natural frequency of 1DOF system lower, and it also cut off vibration at anti-resonance frequency. Amplitude of the effect depended on not only a
    cross sectional area of bypass pipe but also fluid density and length of bypass pipe. If the cross sectional area can be switched when diameter of the bypass pipe makes virtually changeable for clustering particles of MR fluid under strong magnetic field
    by electromagnets; the variable inertia effect which acts as the series inertia mass might be artificially derived. In this paper, to confirm the variable inertia effect, trial damper which had twelve electromagnets along the bypass pipe was manufactured
    and dynamic properties of the damper were measured in some current cases of electromagnets. Finally, variable inertia effect was confirmed experimentally.

    The structure causes a resonance at the natural frequency and large vibration occurs. As a method to shift the resonance frequency, the dynamic absorber using the additional mass is known well. It is known that the dynamic absorber is effective at the specific frequency, but is ineffective in the other frequency band. Because the resonance frequency depends on the stiffness, it is necessary to devise a semi-active dynamic absorber to change the stiffness by the frequency of the structure. In prior research, there was a problem of "the occurrence of acceleration disturbance."     Given the frequency of seismic waves close to the resonant frequency of the structure, the structure causes a large vibration.
    As a method to shift the resonance frequency, the dynamic absorber using the additional mass is known well. The dynamic
    absorber is an effective method to suppress at the specific frequency. However, the frequency band which can demonstrate
    the effect of the dynamic absorber is restrictive, and it seems that the semi-active control is more effective. The resonance
    frequency depends on the stiffness according to the principle of a dynamic absorber. Therefore, it is aimed for the vibration
    suppression of the wide frequency band using the dynamic absorber which realized a variable stiffness mechanism by a
    pair of conic spring and pre-compression displacement. In prior research, there was a problem of "taking time in the variable mechanism of the displacement using the rack & pinion with a DC motor." In order to improve the problem, variable stiffness mechanism is realized using the air cylinder which is quick in movement as an actuator. The stiffness of the dynamic absorber is changed according to the frequency of the structure, and it is verified that the effect of the semi-active control by simulations and vibration experiments with some seismic waves.

    As a method to shift the resonance frequency, the dynamic absorber using additional mass is well known; However, its performance is restrictive. The resonance curve with the dynamic absorber will be changed by stiffness. Therefore, by the dynamic absorber which realized variable stiffness, we proposed that a semi-active control to switch the stiffness of the dynamic absorber depending on the vibration frequency of the structure. We proposed that a technique which is detected the vibration frequency of the structure by some Butterworth filter, and the frequency to change stiffness is determined from a resonance curve. We applied the dynamic absorber which changed pre-compression displacement with one pair of cone type spring to one-degree-of-freedom structure, and also the dynamic absorber with an air damper which changed air flow to change the stiffness by an air spring to two-degree-of-freedom structure. The effects were checked by some experiments.

    Input time delay systems, which have several time lag with sensors and/or actuators, can be controlled by the predictive control method such as lumped parameter systems. However, in practically, it has to start to identify the control object. The identification of the exact time delay is also important, but for the input time delay system it is more important to identify some model to improve the controlled performance. We have researched the "Joint Design Method of Closed-loop Identification for System with Time Delay" and derived some useful results.

    本年度の研究の結果以下のような研究成果が得られた。
    まず第一にはプロセス制御系のモデルに関してである。いままでプロセス制御系といえば産業界では「一次遅れ+むだ時間」系にモデリングをしてきた。しかし、ごく簡単な実験装置においても、一次遅れ+むだ時間系のような簡単なモデルというものは少なく、ステップ応答だけに頼る従来のモデリングに疑問を抱いた。ステップ応答だけをみるとうまくパラメーター同定されているようにみえても、周波数応答をとると低周波数帯では合っても、その他の周波数帯では必ずしもマッチしていない。これでは制御手法がモデルベースではなく、経験的試行錯誤であるPI制御に頼るしかなくなってしまう。
    上記の観点に立ち、第二番目としてモデルベースの制御の可能性を追求した。プロセス制御の対象をできるだけきちんとモデリングして、すでにある制御方策がどのくらい適応できるか理論的に求められているものから実験を行った。本年度は「内部モデル制御」、「折り返し法(最適レギュレータ+極配置法)」、「固有関数を用いたH∞制御」、「非線形H∞制御」などの手法を実験モデルに適応した。内部モデル制御はむだ時間系に有効であり、二自由度系にするとさらによくなりそうなことがわかった。今後も継続して研究する必要がありそうである。折り返し法と固有関数を用いたH∞制御は制御理論を実際にプロセス制御系(分布定数系)に応用したという意味が大きい。プロセス制御系でアクチュエータとして重要なバルブの特性は双線形系(非線形)であるため、非線形H∞制御は有効な手段であり、本年度は理論的部分とシミュレーションのみであったが、今後もっと研究していく必要がある分野である。
    以上のようにプロセス制御系における制御理論の応用関する知見が得られた。
