    We studied the saturation of the Rees algebra R(M) of a module M over a local ring R. If M is an R-module appearing as the cokernel of a homomorphism of finitely generated free R-modules, putting suitable assumption on f, we could describe an acyclic complex concretely which gives an R-free resolution for a homogeneous component of the saturation of R(M). We considered the ideals of R as the objects of our research. In order to place emphasis on the point of view that ideals are submodules of rank one free modules, we avoided putting the assumption that the ideals are prime, which is common in the study on symbolic Rees algebras. As a consequence, we could generalize the Huneke's criterion on the Noetherian property of the symbolic Rees algebras of prime ideals in 3-dimensional regular local rings, and we found an interesting application.

    In this research, we aimed to find a new method for computing symbolic powers of ideals in 3-dimensional regular local (or polynomial) rings. Furthermore, we aimed to improve the Huneke's criterion for symbolic Rees algebras to be Noethrian.
    In the first year, using *-transform of acyclic complexes, we found a specific procedure to induce free resolutions of symbolic powers from those of ordinary powers. Next year, we gave a new criterion on the Noetherian property of symbolic Rees algebras. In the third year, we checked the practicality of the results we found in the last two years by applying them to concrete examples. The last year was devoted for extending the class of ideals whose symbolic Rees algebras are not Noetherian.

    Let G be a reductive group over a field of positive characteristic, acting on a polynomial ring S linearly. We proved that if S has a good filtration as a representation of G, then for any parabolic subgroup P of G, the invariant subring S^{U_P} under the action of the unipotent radical U_P of P is a finitely generated strongly F-regular UFD, in particular, it is Gorenstein. We also discussed properties of commutative rings of positive characteristic, and jointly with Mitsuhiro Miyazaki, we discussed G-prime and G-primary G-ideals. These are studies in commutative algebra and invariant theory.

    We study the homotopy category of unbounded complexes with bounded homologies and its quotient category by the homotopy category of bounded complexes. In the case of the homotopy category of finitely generated projective modules over an Iwanaga-Gorenstein ring, we show the existence of a triangle of recollements in the above quotient category. As an application, we show that this quotient category is triangle equivalent to the stable module category of Cohen-Macaulay T_2(R)-modules.

    We investigated the property of singularities appearing in the minimal model theory in algebraic geometry. Specifically, we got the following results. 1. We introduced the notion of F-thresholds of pair of ideals and got a conjecture concerning F-threshold and multiplicity of ideals. We proved the conjecture in some important cases. 2. We gave a procedure to construct (quasi) Gorenstein graded rings with given a-invariant from normal projective varieties. 3. We investigated diagonal subalgebras of multi-graded rings and gave a criterion for such rings to be rational singularity. We also gave a new example concerning theory of divisor class groups.

    Although the theory of multiplicity of local rings is very important as a classical theory in commutative algebra, but it can be applied to only ideals containing some power of the maximal ideal. Hence a generalized invariant named "j-multiplicity" was introduced. However, it was really difficult to compute its value. In this research, we established a practical method for computing the j-multiplicity of a given ideal.

    Frobenius endomorphism hi characteristic p > 0 is a very powerful tool in commutative ring theory as well as singularity theory or algebraic geometry iover a field of characteristic 0 via reduction mod p.
    We applied the Frobenius endomorphism to various problems in commutative algebra and singularity theory. Inparticular, we showed the followings ;
    1. F-thresholds ; F-threshold is defined in a Noetherian ring of characteristic p>0 to a pair (I,J) of two ideals of A.
    This notion was originally introduced to describe multiplier ideals and jumping numbers in a regular local ring. But in our research, it turned out that this notion is closely related to tight closures and integral closures and also we have a nice conjecture concerning F-threshold and multiplicity of a parameter ideal.
    2. Multi-graded rings, rational singularity and F-rational rings ;
    The notion of multi-graded rings and their diagonal algebras is a very interesting object and very useful in making many interesting examples. In a joint paper with A Singh and E. Sato, K. Kurano and K. Watanabe made a new example with discrete divisor class group whose local cohomology modules shows very interesting feature. Also we showed a criterion for diagonal subalgebras of multi-graded hypersurfaces to be f-rational or F-regular in terms of the degree.
    3. Totally reflexive modules ;
    In the theory of totally reflexive modules, examples of non-trivial totally reflexive modules are very few. Watanabe and R. Takahashi constructed a family of non-trivial totally reflexive modules using geometry of curves of genus greater than 1. This is the first case that algebraic geometry is used in this theory.

    The Grothendieck group K_0(D^b(modA)) of a bounded derived category of finitely generated modules over an Artinian ring A is a free abelian group of rank n, where n is the number of non-isomorphic simple modules. But it is not known what is the Grothendieck group of a unbounded derived category. By using the notions of compact objects and generators which are generalizations of perfect complexes, we introduce the notion of an additive T-set of classical generators, and show that The Grothendieck group K_0(D^-(modA)) (resp., K_0(D^-(modA))) of bounded above (resp., bounded below) complexes of finitely generated A-modules is isomorphic to (Z{T, T^<-1>}/(1+T))^n. As a consequence, the Grothendieck groups of D^-(modA), D^+(modA), D(modA) are trivial.
    Let R be a coherent ring, and T a tilting R-module. For an R-module M which has a T-resolutibn 0->T_<n^->>...->T_<1->>T_<0->>M_->0, we show that the Auslander condition for T is equivalent to the condition that the flat dimension of an End_R(T)-module Hom_R(T, E^i (M)) is less than or equal to i+ n, where 0- >M_->E^0(M)->E^1(M)->...is an minimal injective resolution of M. We study the case of algebraic varieties which have tilting sheaves, and applying them investigate the case that derived Picard group of a finite dimensional algebra is isomorphic to the automorphism group of the derived category of modules.
    We show that the Rees algebra of the second syzygy module of the residue field of a regular local ring is a Gorenstein factorial domain. We define a notion of numerical equivalence on Chow groups or Grothendieck groups of Noetherian local rings. Under a mild condition, it is proved that the Chow group modulo numerical equivalence is a finite dimensional Q-vector space. We prove that the coefficient of the second term of the Hilbert-Kunz function of e vanishes over a Q-Gorenstein ring.

    This research aims at the analysis of several kinds of so-called blow-up algebras associated to ideals and modules, in order to clarify the structure of given ideals and modules as well as that of the base(local or graded) rings. Certain practical criteria for graded rings, say the Rees algebra R(I), the associated graded ring G(I), and the fiber cone F(I), to be Gorenstein, Cohen-Macaulay, and Buchsbaum rings are discovered. Especially, the leading ideal of a complete intersection of height two in a regular local ring is closely studied, which are researches jointly with W. Heinzer and Mee-Kyoung Kim. The head investigator is quite satisfied by these joint works. On the other hand, a joint research with R. Takahashi and N. Matsuoka about quasi-socle ideals in a Gorenstein local ring was started and the theme is now a one of the most attractive studies of the theory of reduction numbers of ideals and the ring-theoretic properties of associated graded rings. The results are already written into two papers(see below) and were submitted to some journal for publication.

    As an analogue of the duality of quasi-coherent sheaves with actions over schemes, we studied the duality with actions over formal schemes. As a result, we have proved the following : Let S be a universally catenary Nagata Noetherian scheme, f : X→Y a surjective universally open S-morphism of S-schemes. If X is of finite type over S and Y is reduced, then Y is of finite type over S. As an appliatlon, we obtained a new proof of the finiteness of geometric quotients due to Fogarty. As another application, we proved that if S is a Noetherian scheme, f : X→Y a faithfully flat S-morphism of S-schemes, and X is of finite type over S, then Y is of finite type over S. Later, as a generalization, we proved that we may replace the faithful flatness by purity. Moreover, we obtained a new proof of the global F-regularity of Schubert varieties due to Lauritzen, Raben-Pedersen, and Thomsen. Moreover, we obtained a new geometric proof of the computation of invariant subrings first provedin 70's by De Concini and Procesi. Moreover, we extended the class of rings of which we take the invariant subrings, from the class of polynomial rings to that of determinantal rings. Lastly, we proved the following : Let R be a Dedekind domain, G an affine flat R-group scheme, B a flat R-algebra on which G acts. If a Noetherian R-algebra and an R-algebra map A→B^G is given, and if for any R-algebra which is an algebraically closed field, the induced map Kotimes A→(Kotimes B)^{Kotimes G} is an isomorphism, then for any R-algebra S, the induced map S otimes A→(Sotimes B)^{Sotimes G} is an isomorphism.

    The central theme of Iwasawa theory is the main conjecture which states that the characteristic ideal of an algebraic object like Iwasawa modules is essentially generated by the p-adic L-function. Namely, the characteristic polynomial of a certain Galois action and the orders of certain arithmetic objects like ideal class groups are determined by the zeta values. In this research, we could prove that the p-adic L-functions (in a wide sense) have more information than the characteristic polynomials and the orders. More precisely, we could show that the Fitting ideals which have more information than the characteristic ideals are determined by the p-adic L-functions.
    First of all, we defined the Stickelberger ideal for an imaginary abelian field K in a different way from that of Iwasawa and Sinnott, and proposed a conjecture which claims that this ideal coincides with the 0-th Fitting ideal of the class group of K Our Stickelberger ideal is defined by using several Stickelberger elements of subfields and extension fields of K, so this ideal is regarded as an analytic object, and our conjecture can be regarded as a refinement of usual main conjecture. We proved this conjecture in several cases. We also proposed an analogous conjecture for the Iwasawa module of the cyclotomic Z_{p} extension of K, and proved it completely.
    We also generalized a structure theorem by Kolyvagin and Rubin for abelian fields to general CM fields. We proved that the higher Fitting ideals of the class group are generated by elements constructed from Stickelberger elements. This gives a typical example of the refinement of Iwasawa theory in our sense.

    For an idempotent e of an algebra A, we study the structure of a recollement {D_<A/AeA>(A), D(A), D(eAe)} and the distinguished triangle ξ(e) which induduce the recollement. We give equivalent conditions that a tilting complex induces an equivalence between recollements {D_<A/AeA>(A), D(A), D(eAe)} and{D_<B/BfB>(B),D(fBf)}.We call this tilting complex a recollement tilting complex. We study constructions of tilting complexes for a symmetric algebra A over a field. First, we construct a family of recollement tilting complexes {T_n}_<n≧0> which induce an equivalence between recollements {D_<A/AeA>(A), D(A), D(eAe)} and{D_<B/BfB>(B),D(fBf)} from a partial tilting complex. As applications, we show that a partial tilting complex P of length 2 is a tilting complex if and only if the number of indecomposable types of P is equal to the number of generators of the Grothendieck group of A. This is a complex version over symmetric algebras of Bongartz's result on classical tilting modules. The recollement tilting complex which is constructed in the above induces an Morita equivalence between A/AeA and B/BfB. Moreover, We have the following related results : We study when the induced map between Grothendieck groups of finitely generated modules of a noetherian local ring and its completion is injective. We determine when the affine cone of the Grassmanian variety is a Roberts ring. We generalize the relation between divisor class groups of normal projective variety and its total coordinate ring. Let A/B be a quasi-Frobenius extension. In the case that B is non-singular, if A is self-injective, then so is B. If B is self-injective and has a right ideal of which socle is non-zero, then A sarisfies the same condition.

    The results are mainly concerning the followings 3 themes
    1.Multiplier ideals ;
    J.Lipman and K.Watanabe proved that every integrally closed ideal in 2 dimensional regular local rings is a multiplier ideal.
    N.Hara and K.Yoshida defined a generalization of "tight closures" in characteristic p>0 and by using that concept, they Succeeded to calculate multiplier ideals by purely algebraic (by commutative ring theory) method.
    S.Takagi and K.Watanabe established the notion of "F-pure thresholds", which corresponds to the notion of lc(=log canonical) threshold in characteristic 0, used in algebraic geometry. This concept has many interesting features in both singularity theory and commutative ring theory.
    2.Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity ;
    Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity is a kind of multiplicity defined for rings of positive characteristics. Watanabe and Yoshida proved before that a ring is regular if and only if the HK multiplicity of the ring is 1. This time we determined the rings whose HK multiplicity is smallest among non-regular rings in dimension 2 and 3.

    Let A be a Noetherian ring and I an ideal of A. If I is of positive height and the Rees algebra R(I) of I is Cohen-Macaulay, then R(I) is called an Arithmetic Cohen-Macaulayfication of A. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for A to have an arithmetic Macaulayfication. That is, A has an arithmetic Macaulayfication if and only if A satisfies
    (C1)A is universally catenary ;
    (C2)all the formal fiber of any localization of A are Cohen-Macaulay ;
    (C3)the Cohen-Macaulay locus of any finitely generated A-algebra B is open in Spec B ;
    (QU)for any pair of prime ideals p ⊂ q, ht q = ht q/p + ht p ;
    (UM)A has no embedded primes.
    In consequence of this result, we show that A is a homomorphic image of a Cohen-Macaulay ring if and only if A satisfies (C1)-(C3) and
    (CD)A has a codimension function.

    The purpose of this research is to study the following problems: (1) Find practical criteria for Rees algebras and associated graded rings of ideals to be Gorenstein rings. (2) Develop the theory of good ideals in Gorenstein local rings. As for the second problem we have developed a satisfactory new theory. Let (A, m) be a Gorenstein local ring of dimension d and let I be an m-primary ideal in A. Then we say that I is a good ideal in A, if the associated graded ring G(I) of I is a Gorenstein ring and a(G(I)) = 1-d. Although good ideals are the best ones next to the parameter ideals in A, we lacked deep investigations of the ideals of this kind. The project has performed a basic theory of them. While the project proceeded, unexpected results about integrally closed ideals were discovered, which led us to the other research on the reduction numbers of certain In-primary ideals in Buchsbaurn, or more generally, FLC local rings. The results generalize those on Cohen-Macaulay local rings that were given by Corso-Polini-Huneke-Vasconcelos. We especially summarized these investigations into the following three papers:

    First, we study Picard groups and derived Picard groups of finite dimensional hereditary algebras. We obtain general results on the structure of Picard groups and derived Picard groups, as well as explicit calculations for the Dynkin and affine quivers, and for some wild quivers with multiple arrows. In addition we prove that when A is hereditary, the derived Picard group of A coincides with the full group of Minear triangle auto-equivalences of the derived category of A. Hence we can calculate the group of non-commutative projective spaces introduced by Kontsevich-Roseriberg.Second, we show that a compact object C in a triangulated category, which satisfies suitable conditions, induces a t-structure. Third, in an abelian category we show that a complex P of small projective objects of term length two, which satisfies suitable conditions, induces a torsion theory. In the case of module categories, using a torsion theory, we give equivalent conditions for P' to be a tilting complex. Finally, in the case of artin algebras, we give a one to one correspondence between tilting complexes of term length two and torsion theories with certain conditions.
    Moreover, We have the following related results :
    1) First, we define test modules to calculate Dutta multiplicities and study the relation. Second, we characterize Roberts rings by some Galois extensions. Third, it is shown that a Chow group A.(A) of A is determined by cycles and a rational equivalence with respect to certain G-graded ideals of a Noetherian ring that graded by a finitely generated Abelian group G.Finally,we prove that the induced map G_0(A) → G_0(A) by completion is injective if A is an excellent Noetherian local ring that satisfies one of the three conditions (K. Kurano).
    2) It is shown that for a quasi-Frobenius extension A of a right non-singular ring B if A is a right self-injective ring, then so is B (Y. Kitamura).

    In this research we aimed to study homological property of the form ring associated to a general filtration F : A = F_0 ⊇ F_1 ⊇ F_2 ⊇ ・・・ in a local ring A. For that purpose we have introduced the notion of analytic deviation of F, which was originally defined for ideals, and proceeded with the research regarding analytic deviation as a barometer of difficulty of analysis. Our main results obtained in each year were as follows.
    1. (1999) A theory for filtrations of analytic deviation zero was established.
    2. (2000) A criterion for Cohen-Macaulay property of the form ring associated to a filtration of analytic deviation one was given.
    3. (2001) We have applied our theory stated above to various filtrations.
    4. (2002) We gave a theory in the case where the analytic deviation was arbitrary.

    B. Mazur began to construct in 1970's Iwasawa theory for elliptic curves which generalizes the work of Iwasawa on ideal class groups to Selmer groups and Tate Shafarevich groups. If an elliptic curves has ordinary reduction at every prime above p, we have a sufficient Iwasawa theory which describes the relation between the Selmer group and the p-adic L-function. But if it does not have ordinary reduction, nothing had been known for a long time. In our research, at first we considered an elliptic curve over the rational number field which has supersingular reduction at p. We determined the Galois wodule structure of the Selmer groups over the intermediate fields of the cyclotomic Z-extension of the rational number field, in particular we determined the orders of the p-components of the Tate-Shafarevich groups over them. Our new discovery is that they can be described by using fractional invariants though in usual Iwasawa theory one uses integer invariants. We constructed a conjectuve which describes how the orders grow in general case, and proved it in some special cases. We found that the distribution relation and the Galois module structure of the local Mordell Weil group are important to understand this phenomenon. We also constructed a homomovphism which sends the zeta element by K. Kato to the modular element by Mazuv and Tate, which gives the relation between the p-adic analytic side and the p-adic algebraic side.

    1. Construction problem of Galois covers : Galois covers for *_4 and *_4 have been studied by the head investigator. In 1999, he made investigation on such Galois covers based on the Lagrange's method in solving quartic equations. The idea was to understand the Langranges method in terms of linear equivalence of divisors on algebraic varieties. In the first half of 2000, he polished the results in 1999, and made them into more "user-friendly" form. All of these results and their applications are written in his preprint "Galois covers for *_4 and *_4 and their applications, which is submitted to Osaka Math.J.In the second half of 2000, he has started investigation about versal Galois covers. It gaves new daylight in the study of Galois covers with other kinds of finite groups such as *_5.
    2. Topology of open algebraic varieties : Some new examples of Zariski pairs were found by Tokunaga. Oka made the intensive study on (2, 3) torus sextic curve and the topology of their complement. Shimada gave a new invariant for the fundamental group of the complement to plane curves and applied it to study the Zariski pari given by Namba and Tsuchihashi.
    3. Singularites : Oka and his PhD Student Pho Duc Tai figured out almost all possible configurations of singularites of non-tame (2, 3) torus sextic curves.

    Our aim was to make resolution of singularities in arbitrary characteristic (or, more generally, in mixed-characteristic). By the help of the fund, investigators have got various results around the problem. Kurano described localized Chern characters in terms of Adams operations due to Gillet-Soule. Using it, the positivity of Dutta multiplicity was proven, and if one of two module is Cohen-Macaulay over a Roberts ring of equi-characteristic, then the same result as Serre's positivity follows from it. Kawasaki proved the existence of Cohen-Macaulayfication for arbitrary schemes. By the result, we may assume that the given scheme is Cohen-Macaulay when we construct resolution of singularity. Ito constructed 3-dimensional McKay correspondence. Oka studies flex curves using the method of resolution of singularities of toric varieties. Terao studied hyperplane arrangement by calculating monodromy. Nakamura studied how to compute explicit examples using computers. Takeda studied the standard conjecture due to Grothendieck. Yokura studied Milnor classes using equivariant theory due to Fulton-MacPherson. Ishikawa studied the tangent developables of space curves. Fukui proved the Cohen-Macaulayness for some rings that are important in sungularity theory.

    We obtained several results, using the argument in the theory of Euler systems. First of all, we showed that the ideal class group of the maximal real subfield of the field which is obtained by adjoining all the roots of unify to a totally real number field, is trivial. Especially, every ideal of a real abelian field becomes principal in some real abelian field. In other words, the ideal class group of the field which is obtained by adjoing cos(ィイD72π(/)nィエD7) for all n > 0 over the rational number field is trivial. We also applied this method and obtained the triviality of the ideal class group of the maximal abelian extension of a number field which contains an imaginary quadratic field.
    Next, using Deligne-Soule's cyclotomic elements, we made a simple criterion for Greenberg's conjecture on the ideal class groups of the cyclotomic ZィイD2pィエD2-extension of real abelian fields, and we carried out various numerical computation and checked the validity of this conjecture for small primes.

    We define cotilting bimodule complexes, and develop the derived duality theory to deal with case of non-commutative Noetherian algebras. We show that cotilting bimodule complexes contain all invective indecomposable modules. This property is similar to residuality of dualizing complexes. Furthermore, we give a "Morita duality theorem" for derived categories. Applying the above to the cases of Gorenstein and Auslander-Gorenstein rings, that are generalizations of commutative Gorenstein rings, we prove that if $M$ is a left $R$-module of invective dimension $n$ which is equal to the invective dimension of $R$, then the last term $E^n(M)$ in a minimal invective resolution of $M$ appears in the Last term of a minimal invective resolution of $R$. In particular, we obtain that if $R$ is Auslander-Gorenstein, then $E^n(M)$ has essential socle.
    Moreover, We have the following related results :
    1) e give a condition that a blow-up whose center is an equi-multiple ideal is a macaulayfication. And we give a equivalent condition for a Serre conjecture concerning intersection multiplicities, and study symbolic powers of prime ideals with respect to the above. We find a relation between Adams operation and localized Chern character, and prove the positivity of Dutta multiplicity in characteristic 0 (K.Kurano).
    2) We give a characterization for self-infectivity of rings by using quotient categories which are induced from Lambek torsion theory. And, using Morita duality theory, we find a condition that a projective indecomposable module is injective (M.Hoshino).
    3) e treat a quantum harmonic oscillator in thermal equilibrium with any systems in certain classes of bosons with infinitely many degrees of freedom. By using the expression of the ground state energy $E_{SB}$ of the spin-boson Hamiltonian, we show a necessary and sufficient condition with respect to a parameter $G\in [- 1, \, 0]$ such that a formula with $G$ attains to $E_{SB}$ (M.Hirokawa who was an investigator of this research until September 1998).

    論文リストにあるJournal of Algebraに掲載予定の論文(On Macaulayfication obtained by a blow-up・・・)の中で次の様なことがわかった。
    Aberbach-Huneke-Smithによってtight closureの理論がMacaulayficationに応用があることがわかりAberbachによりそれが更に拡張されたが、一般にequi-multipleなイデアルによるblow-upがいつコーエン・マコーレー・スキームになるか判定法があることがわかった。つまり、それがコーエン・マコーレー・スキームになるためには上の論文に書かれている二条件を充たしてないといけないのである。tight closureの理論からでてくるイデアルの場合はその内の一つの条件を充たしていることは簡単に証明できる。もう片方の条件を上のイデアルが一般的に充たすには、Aberbachが付けている新たな条件が必要である。このように私の定理を使うことによりtight closureの理論とコーエン・マコーレー化との関係が明らかになったといえる。また、私の定理はtight closureの理論から出てくるイデアル以外にも極大イデアルに属する準素イデアルの場合などに応用がある。

    計上したパーソナルコンピュータ一式はある事情のため納入が年度末ギリギリになってしまった。将来の研究に活用したい。当該研究には数学教室現有のコンピュータを不便を克服しながら利用した。
    本年度の研究は思うほど進展しなかったというのが真実である。ブラウワ-群は非常に広範な数学の概念と関連しているために、まず関連した知識を集めることに取り組んだ。一つには古典的な理論である類体論とブラウワ-群の関連を明確に把握しようと努力した。類体論は難解な理論であり、またその記述法に多種あり、ブラウワ-群を使わない記述法と使う記述法とがある。使わない記述法のほうがやや理解しやすく一般の書物ではそちらの方法を取っている。一方、使う記述法のほうは最もエレガントな方法であるが、難解なためそれに言及してある文献は少ない。また言及してあっても筆者以外の人間にも判りやすく書くという形の文献は皆無である。このことが原因で知識を集める作業に思わぬ時間がかかってしまった。もうひとつ、ブラウワ-群に関連した事項で現在の研究のテーマになっている側面の知識の集積に努めた。日本では現在東北大学のグループがこれに取り組んでいる。そのグループの最近の成果には興味を引かれた。
    また、以前に取り組んだ成果であるデルペッツォ曲面についてのブラウワ-群の計算と若干の理論の成果を最終的にまとめ、具体的にMathematics of Computation誌上で発表できるメドをつけることができた。
    もうひとつ、一般の曲面上のブラウワ-群についての理論的成果をInventiones Mathematicae誌上で発表できるメドをつけることができた。これは本来平成7年度中に発表できたのだが、レフェリーの手違い等に会い、遅れてしまった。1950年代にアメリカの数学者テートが提出した問題に解答を与えたものである。

    論文リストにあるTohoku Math.J.に掲載予定の論文(A remark on the Riemann-Roch formula…)の中で次の様なことがわかった。
    体上のsmoothな代数多様体のアフィン・コーンの原点での局所環AのスペクトラムSpecA上で、特異スキーム上でのリーマン・ロッホの定理で出てくるリーマン・ロッホ写像τSpecAでのサイクル[A]の像(SpecAのChow群の元)を具体的に記述する方法を見つけた。一般のネーター局所環B上で、Bが完全交差であれば、サイクル[B]のリーマン・ロッホ写像τSpecBによる像は、SpecBのChow群の中のサイクル[SpecB]に一致することが知られているが、BがCohen-Macaulay環であるときは、必ずしもそれは成立しない。とすると、BがGorenstein環であるときに、それは成立するかが、一つの疑問として出てくる。しかし、私の結果より、AがGorenstein環であるが、τSpecA([A])が[SpecA]と一致しない例を構成することができる。特異スキーム上のリーマン・ロッホ写像の計算は大変むずかしいのであるが、この結果により、計算可能な例がいくつも見つかるのである。
    今年、目標としていたDutta multiplicityの正値性は証明できていないが、上の結果は、リーマン・ロッホ写像を解析する上で重要なものであるといえる。

    ガウスの積公式の一般化を行なうことに成功した。これはゲルファント=カプラノフ=ゼレビンスキーの超幾何関数の方向への一般化でありまたこれがモチーフ的に考えられ、有限体上でも類似の式が成り立つことを示した。それらの付随する様体のベッチ数の比較により、ある種の格子点の組み合わせ的な量に関する等式を得た。後半は超平面配置の基本群及びその上のホッジ構造ガロア加群構造に関して研究を行なった。複比同値の概念の重要性を示した。
    配置空間の基本群に対しては、ファイブレーションになっていない所での基本群の完全列を示し、最終結果を得た。ガロア群構造に関しては、ハイゼンブルク拡大を見ることにより、新しい拡大の表示を得た。これについては当初、エクスポネントがn=1,・・,7までの計算機による予想が、重要な役割を果たした。

    本年度は、主として、有理(閠数)体の上への群の作用による不変部分体に関する諸問題の研究を行い、以下に述べるような成果を挙げた。
    この方面の未解決の問題の中で、『問題A 体k上の有理体Fの上への有限群Gの線型的作用による不変部分体F^Gはk上の半有理体(あるk上の有理体の中で分離的に閉じた体)であろうか?』は、『Galois理論の逆問題』といわれる100年ほど前から考えられていた代数学における基本的問題との関連から、非常に重要である。問題Aは、『逆問題』との関係では、b=Q(有理数体)の場合が基本的であるが、このときには、整数論と密接に関連するためかなり困難であり、これまでには、ア-ベル群、単純群またはそれらに近い群について、肯定的解答が得られているだけの状況であった。
    本年度は、これまでの研究をさらに押し進め、ある種のべき零群、可解群に対して、問題Aの解答が肯定的であることを示した。また、この問題についてこれまでに得られていた諸結果の証明の簡易化を行った。しかし、一般的場合の解決には至らず、来年度以降もさらに研究を継続する予定である。問題Aについての当面の大きな目標は、b=QでGが可解群の場合にこれを解決することである。
    有理体Fの上への有限群Gの作用が乗法的である場合(すなわち、整数表現の場合)は、線型的である場合と密接な関係があることが知られている。ところが、Gの乗法的作用による不変部分体F^Gの研究は困難であるため、その重要性にもかかわらず、最も基本的である有理性に関するものも含めて極めて僅かの結果しか知られていなかった。本年度は乗法的作用による不変部分体F^Gについても研究を行い、応用上で重要ないくつかの場合について、有理性の判定を行った。

    1.有理(関数)体の拡張概念として、近年導入された安定有理体、レトラクト有理体などの研究を行い、不変部分体がこれらの性質をもつような有限群の整数表現について具体的成果を得た。こららの結果は、本来のネ-タ-の問題と同様に、ヒルベルトの既約性定理を通して、代数学の大きな未解決問題の1つである‘ガセア理論の逆問題'と密接に関係する。実際、この場合には、レトラクト有理性よりさらに弱い概念の(半有理性)が最も基本的であって、有理数体上で不変部分体がつねに半有理的であることが示されれば、逆問題が肯定的に解決されることになる。この方向の研究は今後も継続する予定である。
    2.体R上の生成的斜体について、‘その中心はR上の有理体であろうか?'という問題は最も重要な未解決の問題である。生成的斜体の中心は、対称群のある種の整数表現から定まる乗法的作用による有理体の不変部分体として表せることが知られている。このことと、以前にア-ベルp群の整数表現に関して得ていた結果とを利用して、この問題について新しい結果を得た。しかしながら、完全な解決は今後の課題である。
    3.有限群の整数表現で、階数が小さい(≧3)ものについて、それにより定まる有理体上の乗法的作用による不変部分体の構造を具体的に決定する作業を以前から行っていたが、本年度も計算を続行し、種々の型のものについて、その構造を決定した。これもかなり困難な問題であって、階数が3の場合でも未決定のものが残っており、今後の課題となっている。

    半単純代数群の線形な作用によるaffine空間の商空間をaffine空間の閉部分多様体として実現する場合、その最小埋め込みが群表現にどのように反映するかは、Hilbert以来の古典的テーマである。最近、中島により、次のようなことが得られた。
    1.正なる与えられた埋め込み余次元をもつ既約商空間の同型類は、有限個であり、それらの表現対にあらわれる最高ウエイトを上から、effectiveに評価できる。
    2.完全交叉となる既約商空間の分類の概略
    3.ShephardーToddの結果の正標数への一般化
    1.の成果は、Lie群による変換群論などに応用をもつものとして、その方面への研究計画を準備中である。2つの分類の完成には、まだ多くの困難がともなう。それらは、古典不変式論の計算が複雑の為に発生しているわけであるが、こうした困難は、従来の不変式論を越える新たな方法の必要性を訴えている。この方面の研究こそ、HilbertーPcpovーKnopkの研究の限界を打ち破るものと思われる。1.2.の成果により、このテーマのプログラムの半分以上を達成したつもりであるが、それにともなって新たな課題が発生していると総括できる。
    一方、有限群に関連するものとして、最低、BeukertーHeckmanにより超幾何関数のモノドロミーが分類された。このモノドロミーの不変式を決定できたが、更にある種の微分方程式の鏡映を含む、有限とは限らないモノドロミーの分類とその不変式も決定したい。
