2020年10月21日にスイス、ローザンヌ大学の文学翻訳センターが主催した連続講演「イメージの翻訳」の一環として、講演 "Ins Japanische uebertragen heisst ins Bildliche umsetzenーUebersetzungsstrategien im Umgang hochrhetorischer Schweizer Literatur der Moderne"をオンラインにより実施し、現代スイス文学作品を言語構造の異なる日本語へ翻訳する際に生じる新たな解釈可能性について論じた。
2020年11月23日には『第４回ヨーロッパ文芸フェスティバル』において越境作家テレージア・モーラとの朗読・討論会をオンラインで実施し、最新小説集『よそ者たちの愛』での、現代社会システムから落伍する「よそ者」の表象可能性、移住者にとっての故郷の喪失と変容などのテーマについて議論することができた。
2021年1月には、20世紀前半のドイツ語圏における「探偵小説」ジャンルの成立とそこからの差異化の観点から作家フリードリヒ・グラウザーの小説『体温曲線表(Die Fieberkurve)』を論じたドイツ語論文、" <das junge jakobli laesst den alten jakob gruesen>-Poetik im Dazwischen der Sprachen und jenseits der Sprache in Friedrich Glausers Kriminalroman Die Fieberkurve” を出版した。
2021年1月には、スイスの作家ローベルト・ヴァルザーがみずから編んだ散文作品集『詩人の生』を日本語に翻訳し、中期のビール時代(1913-21)におけるヴァルザーの自己虚構的詩人像の展開について解説で詳論した。 -

In German-speaking countries, where migration has brought about great social changes in recent decades, many writers with multicultural and multilingual backgrounds have received much attention. In this project, we focus on multilingual Swiss writers in the first half of the 20th century (such as Robert Walser and Friedrich Glauser) as well as more contemporary Eastern-European translator-authors (including Ilma Rakusa, Christina Viragh, and Terezia Mora) and explore their potential to create a new kind of culture.

In this project, we analyzed the process of evaluation of literature starting from the work of Swiss writers Robert Walser and Friedrich Glauser in a multidimensional way and discussed the topic beyond ages, media and cultural spheres. Through the workshops and symposiums held on behalf of this project, we gained insight into processes such as the formation and development of literature evaluation, the transformation of literary genres through media, translation between cultures, and adaptations, including aspects of the relevance to society and literary circle. Clear insight was gained in literary creation and the close connections of literary criticism and evaluation.

Robert Walser (1896-1956) and Friedrich Glauser (1896-1938) belong to the generation of Swiss writers who first became aware of the difference between standard German and Swiss German, and who critically dealt with it in their novels. They were also very conscious about the dichotomy between “highbrow“ and “lowbrow“ literature in the 1920s/1930s, and established a new writing style by utilizing popular “lowbrow“ literary genres of their time. In this research project, we explore the polyphonic, highly transgressive writing style of these two authors.

Translation and critical potential of text : A study on English, French and Japanese translations of Robert Walser

Robert Walser's prose beginning with short compositions of a fictional naif schoolboy, culminating with three novels in Berlin and ending with tiny, densely pencil-jotted posthumous manuscripts is regarded as one of the most complicated and radical writings in the modern German literature. In this study we shed light on the critical potential of his text by comparative analysis of its English, French and Japanese translations, through discussions with translators in various languages, and in the translation practice into Japanese.
