The purpose of this study is to examine the historical development of structural transformation of social democratic "Red Vienna" into neo-liberal "Blue Vienna" from the perspective of “global history from below”. It mainly focused on life histories of people with Balkan backgrounds who compose substantial parts of population of Vienna. By combining an interview-based micro-historical survey with general statistic data analysis, it turned out how deeply the labor market is defined by the “poor immigrants” in Vienna. At the same time, we revealed that it is such social classes which neoliberal service industry markets targeting the wealthy inhabitants rely on. In spite of such structural social differences, however, we found out that they, in some cases, successfully live in a cultural "symbiosis" through "our common languages" strategies.

The purpose of this research is to clarify what kind of postwar compensation system was established when Austria, which had been under the Nazi regime during wartime and integrated into the war economic system, promoted national reconstruction and social integration. Mainly based on the investigation of unpublished materials, it investigated the process of enactment of the "War Victim Support Act", which was a legislative law that included most of the people who had suffered from bombings and the conscription during the war as well as their bereaved. The main focus of this research was on the principles and logic that transformed “wartime welfare” into “national welfare”. As a result, it revealed that WWI and WWII war victims could be united as "Austrian nation", while "racially" or “religiously” persecuted victims like Jewish people were to be excluded from the postwar compensation system for the Austrian nation. -

"Antiziganism" in our research project is an analytical concept which has been adapted from the historical concept of Antisemitism (Antijudaism as a racial theory). In the case of Antiziganism, it denotes a particular hostility against "zigeuner" ("Gypsies"), an ethnic minority properly referred to as Sinti/Roma. This may take several forms (e.g. consciousness, discourse, behavior) based upon not only group-specific prejudices but also a limited understanding of a modern state or a modern mainstream society. A variety of historical events will be analyzed by this concept of Antiziganism which penetrates the including and excluding logic of a changing civil society and reflects its self-image, especially when this involves the distinction to the others (i.e. "zigeuner") in those events.

本研究課題では、消防団協会の活動を通して醸成されていく郷土愛が、市民的価値としての愛国心へと転換するメカニズムについて、総合的な観点から検討を行った。その際、そうした愛国心の醸成とのかかわりにおいて、いかにして自由主義を体現していたはずの市民的ボランティア組織が、郷土の社会秩序全般を担う存在として、官憲権力に次ぐ重要な位置を占めるようになったかについて考察した。特に、郷土愛から愛国心へと読み替えられていく1900年前後の時代を中心に、収集した史料から有志消防団とドイツナショナルなアソシエーション(自発的結社)との社会関係をてがかりに分析した。そこから市民団体が愛国心を不断に醸成させる役割を担わされる論理の理解には、「規律」と「農村部」と「お金」という三つの論点が特に重要であることを突き止め、国家、国民及び市民の関係性について検討した。その結果、「官」に限りなく近い存在として、社会的政治的な認知を求
