The purpose of this study is to identify factors influencing self-learning of employees working remotely in Japanese enterprises. Remote working was spread rapidly among Japanese enterprises following the spread of COVID-19 in 2020. It is seemed to remote working has changed employees' self^-learning and their perspective on their careers. We conducted a web-based survey of 1063 full-time employees (991 of whom were valid responses) working remotely in Japanese enterprises. We analyzed the relationship between employees' perceptions of developmental HR practices (PDHRP) and their protean career orientation, and their self-learning of 899 employees who aged 31 or older. Path analysis revealed that PDHRP had a positive impact on self-learning, and employees' protian career orientation partially mediated the impact of PDHRP on self-learning. When implementing remote work in the future, enterprises need to provide developmental HR practices to support for employees not to undermine employees' development opportunities.

The purpose of this study was to review previous studies about workplace learning to give a theoretical basis for the future study.Because workplace learning is an interdisciplinary research topic, prevent and previous works in this field have investigated each issue on the discipline basis, e.g., economics, management studies, psychology, and sociology.<BR>The author defines workplace learning by the way they view learning and where they draw the boundaries of the workplace. They view learning as reflection through experiences or participation in communities.Reviewing the related studies, the author found that classified into four types:(1)“workplace experience approach, ”(2)“workplace participation approach, ”(3)“cross-boundary participation approach, ” and (4)“cross-boundary experience approach”. Almost all previous works appeared to belong to the “workplace experience approach”, despite the fact that workplace learning in its own form and limitation of learning chances takes place beyond the boundaries of the workplace. This must be taken into consideration in future studies, which will have to increasingly adopt the“cross-boundary experience approach”. We will fmd new conceptions of adult learning through proceeding with studies of “crossboundary experience approach”.

The authors developed a smartphone application “Family Portfolio” that records pictures of children and family with a comment and tags. The functions of the application aim at promoting “folio-thinking” that would occur through developing and reflecting on portfolios. Folio-thinking is deep learning that is composed of 1) reflection, 2) Integration, and 3) sharing of learning. “Family Portfolio” publishes a family newspaper automatically once a week based on the photographs which they accumulated during the week. The system aims to promote users to realize their development as a family, and would improve “Parent Awareness” and “Interpersonal Interaction Themes.” The results of evaluation experiments showed that using the application improved awareness of a parental role and of a child.
