    In this paper, the performance of inter vehicle communication (IVC) is evaluated when direct sequence spreads spectrum (DS/SS) communication using slotted ALOHA for the MAC protocol is applied. When the DS/SS scheme is used, the influence of hide terminal problem doesn't occur. On the other hand, the near-far problem, multiple access interference and inter-symbol interference occur as a problem. In order to solve theses problem, successive interference cancellation (SIC) scheme, restriction of communication distance and enhancement of MAC protocol are used. By performing SIC, the influence of near-far problem and multiple access interference are reduced. However, the inter-symbol interference still remains when the communication distance is longer or the GPS positioning error occurs. In these cases, by performing enhancement of MAC protocol, the probability of inter-symbol interference is reduced.

    The guard interval is extended with the OFDM symbol to ensure against the multipath. Thus, interference from the delay signal can be removed when the delay time is shorter than the guard interval duration. However, when the delay time is longer than the guard interval duration, ISI and ICI are happened and it is difficult to remove them. In this paper, the influence of the long delay signal reduction scheme by using the transfer function matrix extended to all bandwidth of the OFDM symbol is proposed. Moreover, another reduction scheme by using re-modulated replica signal is proposed in order to reduce the amount of calculation. The performances are evaluated to show the effectiveness of the both proposed schemes in ISDB-T system.

    The performance of OFDM is improved by pre-coding data symbols on the frequency domain. However, it is not desirable that additive noise on the specific carrier whose signal-to-noise ratio is very low may degrade system performance. An iterative detection of Pre-coded OFDM has alredy been proposed to overcome this problem. In this paper, theoretical analysis of detection of pre-coded OFDM is performed in order to achieve optimal detection. As the result of analysis, some condition that achieve better performance is derived.

    An application of SFN-GF (Single Frequency Network-Gap Filler) is expected for improving the poor reception of the digital terrestrial television broadcasting. To design SFN-GF efficiently by computer simulation, it is important to identify the arrival situations of multipath and feed them back to simulation model. In this paper, in order to improve estimation accuracy of multipath based on measured data, the delay profile is analyzed in detail. Moreover, the reception antenna appropriate for the proposed scheme is examined. As a result, accuracy of Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation is improved.

    In OFDM transmission, performance is degraded by the existence of time domain impulse noise because this noise has very wide bandwidth and it affects all the carriers in the OFDM symbol. Moreover, transmission characteristic is extremely degraded under multi-path channel. In this paper, the impulse noise reduction techniques that the time sample is replaced and the signal is subtracted by the replica signal of the impulse noise are proposed. When plural impulse noise is existed in an OFDM symbol, the process of the impulse noise reduction by subtracting the replica signal is modified. The performance of the OFDM system is evaluated and effectiveness of the proposed scheme is shown.

    In Japan, digital terrestrial television broadcasting based on OFDM is rapidly diffusing. One segment broadcasting ISDB-T has launched for mobile reception of digital television broadcasting and various services are expected. This paper discuss the cooperative reception scheme of digital TV broadcasting. The received signal after the symbol decision is exchanged between terminals and reception process is returned by using exchanged information. The optimum weight is derived from the noise distribution of exchanged signal for the maximum ratio combining.

In the DS/SS-IVC scheme based on location oriented PN code allocation, the deterioration is caused when the positioning error is generated. In order to solve this problem, the positioning system is considered. This positioning system uses the estimation distance that is calculated by RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication). By using this positioning system, the positioning error can be improved.

    In recent years, shopping malls become larger, thus it is difficult for many people to move without getting lost the way in such a large mall. In this paper, the navigation system for these people is proposed. The system is designed by ZigBee sensor network which can connect a lot of terminals with low-cost and low power consumption compared to the other short-range wireless communication systems. Moreover, ZigBee has a function of positioning using RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator). The positioning function can be used in situations where GPS(Global Positioning System) cannot be utilized. In this paper, the navigation success rate and the average navigation time of the proposed system are evaluated. And, the performances are compared in case that the proposed system is used or not used. From the simulation, effectiveness of the proposed navigation system is shown.

    The ICI(Inter-Carrier Interference) is generated by Doppler-spread under mobile reception of MIMO-OFDM systems. In this situation, reception characteristics are deteriorated significantly. It is necessary to reduce the influence of ICI in MIMO-OFDM systems. The MIMO-ICI canceller can remove the influence of ICI. However, the process of the canceller is complex. Therefore, the MIMO-ICI canceller with complexity reduction has been proposed. However, reception characteristics of the MIMO-ICI canceller with complexity reduction are deteriorated than the conventional MIMO-ICI canceller. In this paper, the ICI canceller for MIMO-OFDM systems using iterative detection is proposed. In the proposed scheme, the ignored influence of ICI is removed by iterative detection using provisional demodulated symbols. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by computer simulations.

    In mobile reception of OFDM signal, inter-carrier interference (ICI) is generated by Doppler-spread. The reception characteristics are deteriorated by ICI. Improvement scheme of reception characteristics are necessary. The ICI canceller based on zero-forcing equalization can improve the reception characteristics. However, amount of calculation is increasing. It is necessary to reduce complexity. The ICI canceller with complexity reduction can reduce complexity. However, the reception characteristics of ICI canceller with complexity reduction are deteriorated than ICI canceller. In this paper, the zero-forcing ICI canceller using iterative detection is proposed. The proposed scheme can improve the reception characteristics with reduced the amount of calculation.

    The inter-vehicle communication(IVC) systems based on CSMA/OFDM scheme such as the RC-006 are widely developed since autonomous distributed networks are easily made by using the CSMA/CA MAC protocol. However, the performance is deteriorated caused by the hidden terminal problem in CSMA/CA networks. The CDMA scheme can mitigate the hidden terminal problem because simultaneous communication is possible among users. In this paper, performances of the DS-CDMA IVC scheme using Slotted ALOHA MAC protocol are evaluated and compared with the OFDM IVC scheme using the CSMA/CA MAC protocol. From the simulation results, the PER(Packet Error Rate) performances of the Slotted ALOHA/DS-CDMA scheme with the successive interference cancellation become better than the CSMA/OFDM.

    In mobile reception of uplink OFDM signal, the performance is deteriorated because of ICI (Inter-Carrier Interference) caused by Doppler-spread of the channel as in the case of downlink. Especially, OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access) uplink system, the influence of ICI is different in each user block. Therefore, the ICI cancellation technique in the base station for the uplink OFDMA signal is necessary. In this paper, ICI canceller for uplink OFDMA signal is proposed. The channel matrix considering the influence of ICI in each user is calculated. However, the inverse of the channel matrix cannot be calculated because the diagonal elements of the channel matrix are zero because of Null subcarriers. In proposed scheme, "1" is substituted to the diagonal element of zero corresponding to Null subcarriers of the channel matrix and the pseudo channel matrix is generated. The inverse of pseudo channel matrix is multiplied to the received signal. It is confirmed to that reduction of the influence of ICI using the proposed channel matrix.

Proposed complexity reduction scheme of a MIMO-ICI canceller can improve the influence of ICI with reduced complexity. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by simulations.

    An improvement scheme for degradation of reception characteristics of the digital terrestrial television broadcasting(DTTB) is an important issue. The degradation of reception characteristics is caused by multipath and shadowing. Therefore, it is important to analyze the channel of the DTTB. In this paper, the synchronization scheme of delay profile that is obtained from the received DTTB signals in each angle is proposed in order to estimate the direction of arrival of the path. The symbol timing error is estimated to minimize the synchronization evaluation function. The synchronization error is possible to estimate and the estimation resolution is less than the sampling interval by using proposed scheme. The timing of the delay profile in each angle can be synchronized and the direction of arrival of the path can be obtained well.

    The spectrum sharing techniques are attractive since the frequency band for radio systems is really lacking. The cognitive radio technique and UWB (Ultra Wideband) system with DAA (Detection And Avoidance) function are strong candidates. This paper discusses coexisting signals of primary systems detection technique for spectrum sharing techniques. In the detector, the received coexisting signal is assumed as sum of the sinusoidal waves. The detected sinusoidal signal is subtracted from the received signal iteratively and the error is zeroed. The parameters of the sinusoidal signals are estimated by using the evaluation function and Newton method. The miss Detection Error Rate (DER) and False Alarm Rate (FAR) are evaluated to show the coexisting primary systems detection capability.     Broadcasting signal reception techniques for UHF and VHF band are important since the mobile terminals for the Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB) One-segment service and the multimedia broadcasting will be increased. In this paper, the DTTB signal is measured at low antenna height in high-rises. The receiving antenna is rotated in a horizontal direction. The signal is a non-Line-Of-Sight from the broadcasting station. The propagation paths are estimated from direction of arrival paths.

Resolution of distance in delay profile is not enough using only one channel. In this paper, the multi-channel connection scheme is proposed. In this paper, an analyzing technique for the channel impulse response that is obtained from the pilot symbol from the received signal is proposed. The amplitude and the delay time of a path is estimated to minimize the root square error between the replica signal and the channel obtained from the received signal. In the proposed scheme, the hidden path by the larger path can be found and the impulse response can be re-contracted.

    A SFN-GF (Single Frequency Network-Gap Filler) is expected to improve a reception quality of the digital terrestrial television broadcasting in area where it is difficult for radio waves to penetrate. It is important to analyze the channel characterization and specify the cause of multipath when the SFN-GF is established. In this paper, the received signals in the multi-channel are considered to improve the channel estimation precise. And also the phase variation in time domain into the transfer function are analyzed and compensated. As a result, the angles of multipath arrival power are shown in better estimation quality.

    Ultra Wideband (UWB) is an attractive technique that enable sharing spectrum with other radio systems to spread spectrum extremely wideband. However, there are potential interferences among those using in the same frequency bands and close range. This paper discusses the interference DAA (Detection And Avoidance) technique for coexisting pulse based UWB and OFDM systems. In a UWB transmitter-receiver, utilization of the OFDM signal is detected by correlating the GI (Guard Interval) signal, and the timing of GI period is also detected. The UWB signal is emitted during the GI period to mitigate the effect of interference to the OFDM signals from the UWB system. The DER (Detection Error Rate), FAR (False Alarm Rate) and BER (Bit Error Rate) performances are evaluated to show the availability of proposed DAA technique.

    CSMA scheme which is examined as a media access control in Inter-Vehicle Communication is degraded by hidden terminal problem. However, it is not yet analyzed how many problems exist actually. In this paper, therefore, it is analyzed how many collisions which are caused by hidden terminal problem exist using Packet Loss Rate (PLR). And it is examined how this problem is improved by using Spread Spectrum (SS) scheme in computer simulation. As a result, it is confirmed that the collisions of the packet which caused by hidden terminal problem exist more than that of Carrier Sense failure. Moreover, it is also confirmed that PLR is improved to about a one-third at the maximum by using SS.

    In this paper, improving MCS/DS-SS IVC using p-persistent CSMA is studied. It is possible for p-persistent CSMA to adapt optimally to current traffic situation by setting p to an appropriate value. Therefore, improvement of IVC performance is expected if optimal p value can be set according to the traffic of vehicles. In this paper, the optimal p value that is appropriate for the traffic situation is examined by performing computer simulation under various traffic situations. As the result of simulation, under high traffic situation, it is possible to achieve higher throughput by setting smaller p value.

    This paper discusses spectrum sharing techniques for Ultra Wideband (UWB) radio. Interference mitigation techniques are considered when the UWB system and other radio system are interfered with each other. The multi-carrier type pulse is proposed, that is enables adaptive wave-forming to avoid the interfering band. The effective pulse repetition interval is also considered to mitigate the effect of interference from UWB system to OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system. The interference detection technique is necessary to share the frequency band among the systems. The presence of interfering system and its emitting bands detection technique is proposed. The correlation detection is applied for the interference detection.

However, there are potential interferences among those using the same frequency bands and close range. In some country regulations, the interference DAA (Detect And Avoidance) techniques are required to utilize UWB device. This paper discusses interference DAA technique. To utilize multi-carrier pulse made from several narrower sub-band pulses, it is possible to detect and mitigate the interference. The multi-carrier pulses are also suited for the transmitted pulse waveform, since they have advantage for adaptive wave forming. The proposal system is evaluated by the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance and signal Detection Error Rate (DER) to show their effectiveness. The WiMAX (World Interoperability for Microwave Access) system is considered as an example of the interferer.

    UWB tries to be put to practical use. The interference problem by the frequency sharing with an existing wireless communication system is feared. Adaptive template reception technique are studied as a method of interference reduction. The multi career template is proposed as an adaptive template reception. However, an experimental evaluation has not been done yet. Then, this paper experimentally verifies the effectiveness of the multi career template by using the UWB test bed. The effectiveness of the multi career template is verified by measuring the BER characteristic under cw career interference.

    Ultra Wideband (UWB) is an effective technique that enables coexistence with other radio systems using very short pulses and spread spectrum. Multi Band OFDM (MB-OFDM) is inferentially proposed for personal area networks as well as pulse-based UWB. According to the FCC, both systems will be used in same band from 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz. This paper discusses the effects of interference between pulse-based UWB (p-UWB) and MB-OFDM. To mitigate the effects of interference from MB-OFDM to p-UWB, MB-OFDM band sensing in the p-UWB and multi-carrier template wave techniques are proposed. The multi-carrier template waveform is applied to the interference band detection. These techniques are found effective for the coexistence of both systems.
