    This paper proposes total optimization of energy <br />
    networks in a smart city (SC) by multi-swarm differential evolutionary particle swarm optimization (MS-DEEPSO). Efficient utilization of energy is necessary for reduction of CO2 emission, and SC demonstration projects have been conducted around the world for reducing total energies and the amount of CO2 emission. The problem can be formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem and various evolutionary computation techniques such as particle swarm optimization (PSO), differential evolution (DE), and DEEPSO have been applied to the problem. However, there is still room for improving solution quality. Multi-swarm based evolutionary computation methods have been verified to improve solution quality and the approach has a possibility for improving solution quality. The proposed MS-DEEPSO utilizes both migration and abest, which is the best searching point so far among all sub-swarms. The results of the proposed method are compared with those by the original DEEPSO with a single swarm, MS-DEEPSO with only migration, and with only abest.     This paper proposes a total optimization method of a smart city (SC) by multi-population brain storm optimization with differential evolution strategies (MP-BSODE). Energy cost, actual electric power loads at peak load hours, and CO2 emission are minimized using a SC model. Many evolutionary computation techniques such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Differential Evolution (DE), and Differential Evolutionary Particle Swarm Optimization (DEEPSO) have been applied to the problem. However, there is room for improving solution quality. The results by the proposed MP-BSODE based method are compared with those by the original brain storm optimization with differential evolution strategies (BSODE), DEEPSO, and the original BSO based methods through simulations applied to a model of Toyama city, which is a moderately-sized city in Japan.

    <p>Various evolutionary computation techniques have been applied to voltage and reactive power control. High penetration of renewable energies and deregulation of power systems require to shorten an interval of the control. One of the practical solutions for this problem is applications of parallel and distributed computing with dependability, which is an ability to keep sustainable control against various faults. This paper presents dependability evaluations of parallel differential evolutionary particle swarm optimization (DEEPSO) for voltage and reactive power control. Simulation results with IEEE118 bus systems indicate high dependability of the method, compared with parallel PSO and parallel differential evolution.</p>

    This paper describes a wind power forecasting method and its confidence interval estimation. Recently, flat control of wind power generators by various batteries is required. For the flat control, accurate wind power forecasts and their error confidence intervals are needed. In this paper, wind speed forecasts are calculated by regression models using GPV (Grid Point Vale) weather forecasts. The forecasts are adjusted by the fuzzy inference using the latest errors. The wind power forecasts are translated from the wind speed forecasts using two power-curves. The power-curves are selected or combined by fuzzy inference depending on wind direction. The error confidence interval models are generated for each forecasting target time. Each confidence interval is combined by the other fuzzy inference.<br>The proposed methods are applied to actual wind power generators, and found that forecasting errors are better than the conventional methods. The almost all of forecasts can be within error confidence intervals estimated by the proposed method. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

    This paper presents a systematic and efficient search method for obtaining multiple local optimal solutions based on the stability theory of nonlinear dynamical systems. The method consists of two steps. The first step is a local search step for obtaining a local optimal solution. The second step is a search step for escaping from the stability region of the obtained local optimal solution via a decomposition point. Identifying the decomposition point must be a challenge task for the method. In this paper, bifurcations and a continuation method are applied for obtaining the decomposition point. For the purpose of illustrating the proposed method, well-known test functions including high dimensional functions are applied and the numerical results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

    This paper presents a particle swarm optimization for reactive power and voltage control (VQC) problem formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear optimization problem (MINLP) considering voltage security assessment. The proposed method realizes loss minimization and determines VQC strategy with continuous and discrete control variables such as AYR operating values, OLTC tap positions, and amount of reactive power compensation equipment. The method also considers voltage security assessment using a continuation power flow and voltage contingency analysis technique when determining the control strategy. The feasibility of the proposed method for the problem is demonstrated and compared with reactive tabu search and enumeration method on practical power system models with promising results.

    Service restoration in distribution systems can be formulated as a combinatorial optimization problem. It is the problem to determine power sources for each load considering various operational constraints in distribution systems. Up to now, the problem has been dealt with using conventional methods such as branch and bounds method, expert system, neural networks, and fuzzy reasoning.<br> Recently, modern heuristic methods such as Genetic Algorithms (GA), Simulated Annealing (SA), and Tabu Search (TS) are noticed as efficient methods for solving large combinatorial optimization problems. Moreover, Reactive Tabu Search (RTS) can solve the parameter tuning problem, which is recognized as the essential problem of the TS. Therefore, RTS, GA, and SA can be efficient search method for service restoration in distribution systems.<br> This paper develops a reactive tabu search (RTS) for service restoration and compares RTS, GA, and PSA (Parallel SA) for the problem. The feasibility of the proposed methods is shown and compared on a typical distribution system model with promising results.

    Load flow calculation is a basic tool for power system planning and control which include load flow analysis, voltage control, service restoration, network reconfiguration, and etc. In these applications, it is very important to solve the load flow problem as efficiently as possible.<br> This paper presents a fast load flow using parallel processing for radial power systems. The method can be applied to secondary systems and distribution systems. Since it uses only active and reactive power injection to main lines and laterals as state variables, reduction of number of state variables can be realized. Radial networks are mapped to the tree structure of parallel processor systems in the proposed method. The forward/backward sweep approach is realized by communication from a root processor to leaf processors and vice versa. Using the mapping scheme of the proposed method, each processor has to communicate with only neighboring processors. The proposed method is evaluated on various radial systems with promising results.

    In this paper a new multi-objective metaheuristic method is proposed for transmission network expansion planning (TNEP). The proposed method makes use of Multi-objective Memetic Algoritlm (MOMA) that combines SPEA2 of Multi-objective meta-heuristics (MOMH) with Tabu Search (TS) to obtain better solution sets. In recent years,, the importance of improving power supply reliability is of main concern in transmission network expansion planning under Smart Grid. In other words, sophisticated probabilistic methods are required to deal with TNEP. It may be expressed as a multi-objective optimization problem that focuses on a set of the Pareto solutions and optimizes probabilistic reliability index EENS as well as the construction cost to obtain a set of the Pareto solutions in Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS). In this paper, a MOMA-based method is developed for TNEP and the effectiveness of the proposed method is successfully demonstrated in the IEEE 24-bus system.

    This paper proposes integration of optimal operational planning of energy plants and optimal production planning for actual reduction of energy costs in factories. Conventionally, fixed loads of the various secondary energies have been utilized for solving optimal operational planning of energy plants so far. On the contrary, in this paper, the loads of the various secondary energies are calculated according to candidates of production planning. The proposed method is applied to 10 jobs and 10 machines problem and it is verified that it can minimize the primary energy cost and production time simultaneously.

    This paper proposes operation planning of energy plants in mid and small buildings by swarm reinforcement learning in order to reduce engineering man-hours. Although it takes many man-hours to develop optimization methods based operational planning, utilization of swarm reinforcement learning has a possibility to reduce the engineering man-hours. The results of the proposed method are compared with those of a basic Q learning based method and a basic particle swarm optimization based method. It is verified that energy cost can be reduced by the proposed method more than those by the original Q-learning based method.

    The paper proposes modified brain storm optimization (MBSO) for load adjustment distribution state estimation (DSE) using correntropy. Minimization of sum of square errors by a weighted least squares (WLS) method has a problem when outliers exit in measured values. This problem can be solved by correntropy. Practical equipment in distribution systems causes nonlinear characteristics in an objective function and evolutionary computation methods such as PSO, hybrid PSO (HPSO) and differential evolutionary PSO (DEEPSO) have been applied to DSE so far. However, there is still room for improvement on estimation accuracy. The proposed method is applied to a typical distribution model system. The results indicate that the proposed method can improve estimation accuracy than the conventional DEEPSO and original BSO based method.

    This paper proposes daily peak load forecasting by Artificial Neural Network (ANN) using correntropy based differential evolutionary particle swarm optimization (DEEPSO) for reduction of engineering on data including untypical values. When untypical data exist in the training data, estimation accuracy of daily peak load forecasting can be affected by the untypical data. Therefore, engineers have to remove the untypical values in order improve estimation accuracy. It is a heavy burden to engineers. Correntropy has a possibility to solve this problem. The effectiveness of proposed method is verified by comparison with conventional least mean squre (LMS) based ANNs trained using back-propagation (BP), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and DEEPSO.

    This paper proposes Multi-population differential evolutionary particle swarm optimization (DEEPSO) for
    distribution state estimation (DSE) using correntropy. This paper applies Multi-population DEEPSO in order
    to improve estimation quality. Minimization of sum of square errors by the weighted least mean square (WLS)
    has a problem when outliers exist in the measure values. Quality of estimated results is largely affected by
    the outliers using the WLS, while correntropy has a possibility not to be affected by the outliers. The proposed method applies to a typica distribution system. The results indicate that the proposed multi-population DEEPSO based method can improve estimation results compared with conventional DEEPSO based method without outliers. Moreover, the proposed multi-population DEEPSO based method using correntropy can estimate distribution system conditions with outliers more accurately than the proposed multi-population DEEPSO using conventional WLS.

    This paper proposes parallel canonical differential evolutionary particle swarm optimization (C-DEEPSO) for voltage and reactive power control (VQC). The problem can be formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear optimization problem and various evolutionary computation techniques have been applied to the problem including PSO, differential evolution (DE), and DEEPSO. Considering large penetration of renewable energies and deregulation progress of Japanese electric power energy markets, speed-up of computation is required. Moreover, there is still room for improvement on solution quality. This paper proposes parallel C-DEEPSO as a general evolutionary method in order to speed up the calculation and improve solution quality. An application of the method to a VQC problem is also proposed. The proposed parallel C-DEEPSO based VQC method is applied to IEEE 118 bus system. The results indicate that the proposed method can realize fast computation and minimize more active power losses than the conventional PSO and DEEPSO based VQC methods.

    This paper proposes optimal operation planning of energy plants by modified brain storm optimization (MBSO). The problem can be formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear optimization problem and various evolutionary computation techniques such as particle swarm optimization (PSO), differential evolution (DE), and differential evolutionary PSO (DEEPSO) have been applied so far. However, solution quality can be improved and this paper applies recently developed MBSO for optimal operational planning of energy plants in order to improve solution quality.
