地表面付近の気象や物質循環について、その地に生育する植物との関係、あるいは生態系の機能との関係に関心を持っています。これまでは、北海道や関東地方で、大学や農業試験場の研究員として、森林・湿原のCO2収支や水環境の研究や、農地の温室効果ガス、気象資源を利用した農業技術など、幅広いテーマで研究をしてきました。

    水田は,温室効果ガスであるCH4(メタン)に対する主要な人為的発生源のひとつである。近年,広域な測定範囲からのCH4フラックスを測定するために微気象学的手法が開発されている。本研究では,微気象学的手法の一つである緩和渦集積(REA)法を用いて,タイ王国の水田において出穂開花期のCH4フラックスを測定した。また,チャンバーをイネのない場所に設置して,田面水からのCH4フラックスを測定した。REA法とチャンバー法で測定したCH4フラックスの観測値(1.9mg m-2 h-1から43.6mg m-2 h-1)は既往研究で報告された値と同程度であった。水稲群落と大気間のCH4交換量は日中に大きい傾向があり,水平風速と土壌温度に依存した日周変動を観測した。田面水からのCH4フラックスも同様に,土壌温度上昇に伴って大きくなった。REA法によって観測されたCH4フラックスは測定期間を通じてチャンバー法による値に比べて大きい傾向にあった。これはチャンバー法によるイネのない場所からのCH4フラックスは田面水経由であるのに対し,REA法による水田全体からのCH4フラックスはイネ通気組織経由と田面水経由の両方であるためと考えられた。

    Winter air temperatures are important for crop overwintering and cold resource usage.Growing needs exist for accurate winter agrometeorological information (especially air temperature, snow depth, soil frost depth).To use winter climate resources and take countermeasure for climate change, 1) we clarified winter air-temperature distribution mechanisms affecting a meso-scale plain using field observations and simulations were conducted for Tokachi region, Japan and investigate that effects of model spatial resolution on air temperature calculation accuracy under strong radiative cooling condition, and 2) a practical model has been developed to estimate the daily snow water equivalent and snow depth, soil frost depth. Finally we have constructed agrometeorological information system for cold region using the mesh Agricultural meteorological data system developed by NARO including prediction data for one to two week ahead.

    We monitored methane (CH_4) emission and the storage of methane dissolved in surface and soil water, and accumulated in soil gas in a rice paddy field. Then, we assessed the dynamics of methane in paddy soils to reduce the methane emission from rice paddy fields. Large part of CH_4 generated in paddy soil goes out of the field through emission to the atmosphere and the subsurface drainage and a part of generated CH_4 is store in the water and soil as a dissolved matter and bubble. Therefore, it is considered that the management for decreasing the CH_4 production is effective to decrease CH4 emission from rice paddy fields.
