    Hydrogen sorption property of Mg in Pd-capped thin film nanoconfined with Fe is investigated. Two methods of depositing the thin films were utilised, i.e., resistive heating method and pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method. In the thinnest Mg film prepared by resistive heating, hydrogen content was observed to be the highest among all samples and the hydrogen desorption temperature is 230 C. Using pulsed laser deposition method, Mg/Fe nanoconfined multilayers are easily prepared. The hydrogen desorption temperature of Mg film with 12 Mg/Fe layers prepared via PLD method was significantly reduced to 155 °C, and the hydrogen storage capacity is improved as compared to the Mg/Fe with only several layers of same overall thickness. This study showed that the desorption temperatures correlate with the film thickness, thinner films react with hydrogen at lower temperatures.

    <p>The shape memory effect (SME) in Fe-Mn-Si based alloy is associated with γ ⇄ ε martensitic transformation which is caused by motion of the Shockley partial dislocation. The variants in Fe-Mn-Si based alloy could appear the four orientations according to Shouji-Nishiyama (S-N) relation in the transformation from the austenite phase (A-phase) to the martensite phase (M-phase). It was reported that a single variant formed under the stress induced transformation in the SME and that is the advantage for the shape recovery in the variant selection behaviors. In this study, the variant selection of Fe-Mn-Si based alloy under stress applied is investigated on the basis of crystallography in the SME with Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD). The amount of shape recovery was quantified by means of bending tests and the best recovery ratio was run into 83% for the specimen annealed 873K. The SME is improved by not only the increase of A-phase but also the promotion of the single variant under stress induced transformation. The single variant orientation is selected by the degree of Schmid's factor in the behaviors. In the specimen annealed at 873K, the increase of M-phase concentrates at 0.475 of the Schmid's factor, the single variant orientation, and that suggests the single variant formation.</p>

    <p>In this study, four multilayer film samples of polyimide/Mg, polyimide/Mg/Ti, polyimide/Mg/Pd, and polyimide/Mg/Ti/Pd were prepared by pulsed laser deposition and evaluated for hydrogen absorption-desorption properties. Polyimide/Mg and polyimide/Mg/Ti samples did not absorb hydrogen under conditions of 0.8 MPa and 200°C, while polyimide/Mg/Pd and polyimide/Mg/Ti/Pd samples absorbed hydrogen under the same conditions. The polyimide/Mg/Pd and polyimide/Mg/Ti/Pd samples desorbed hydrogen in the temperature ranges of 430-440°C and 140-200°C, respectively. The addition of Pd was necessary for the absorption of hydrogen because Pd promoted the dissociation of molecular hydrogen. The addition of Ti was necessary to decrease the temperature of dehydrogenation. The improved hydrogen absorption-desorption behavior could be caused by the structural change of MgH<sub>2</sub> from bct to fcc and the decreased thermal stability of fcc MgH<sub>2</sub> compared to that of bct MgH<sub>2</sub>. The hydrogen storage amount of the polyimide/Mg/Ti/Pd film was determined with pressure-composition-temperature measurements. The sample absorbed 0.42 wt.% hydrogen at 200°C and 2.0 MPa and 0.49 wt.% at 200°C and 10 MPa; hydrogen desorption was incomplete under both conditions. While the hydrogen storage amount of the polyimide/Mg/Ti/Pd film is less than that of pure Mg, it may be increased by omitting the base material of polyimide film.</p>

    <p>The shape memory effect of Fe-Ni alloy would be improved with hot dip aluminum coating. There were five types of the specimens, namely #1; just after shape memory treatment (SMT), #2; Al-coated after SMT, #3; Al-coated after SMT and then annealed at 400 degree C, #4; the same but 800 degree C, and #5; annealed at 800 degree C after SMT w/o Al-coated. The shape recovery ratio of the Al-coated specimens (#2) was as much as 20% better than those of w/o Al-coated ones (#1) in V-shaped bending test. All the Al-coated specimens had the intermediate layer at the boundary of Fe-Ni and Al layers. The layer consists of solid solutions of Al dissolved by Fe and Ni with 10 – 20 μm thickness evaluated by microscopic observations. The Vickers hardness was higher than the specimens without Al coating and the specimens with Al coating might have higher yielding stress. The solid-solution layer may store the elastic strain energy during the bending test and then release it for assisting inverse martensite transformation during recovery treatment, thus the recovery may have been strengthened.</p>

    Hydrogen storage alloy has a potential material to become one of the most promising candidates as an effective storage system and it has higher safety and storage density than other storage systems. The Mg-based hydrogen storage alloy has the advantage of high hydrogen storage density (7.6 wt% in MgH<sub>2</sub>), light weight and low cost, while it needs to improve its slow reaction kinetics and high desorption temperature for practical applications. In this research, we prepared the Mg/Fe multi-layer films with the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method and studied their hydrogen absorption and desorption properties for the effects of the order of layer and the Ti layer on the surface. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-Ray diffraction (XRD) were carried out to characterize the hydrogen desorption temperature and the hydride. As a result, it found that Polyimide/Fe/Mg/Ti multi-layer showed to make the magnesium hydride after hydrogenation and to leave it at 245°C and that is 173°C lower than that of pure magnesium hydride and Polyimide/Mg/Fe/Ti, Polyimide/Fe/Mg and SUS304/Fe/Mg/Ti showed no hydrogen desorption after the hydrogenation.

    This study presents a simple interatomic bonding model for disordered A2 and B2 crystal structure. The model consists of an atom-like sphere and eight polar bars attached to its surface. Every bar has a polarity and can only attract a bar of the opposite polarity. Each bar is oriented from the surface of the sphere to a vertex of the cube, of which the sphere is placed in the center. A motif is defined as a combination of polarities on the eight bars, the total of which is 256 although a number of them are identical after rotation and/or inversion. Only 13 motifs classified by point groups are found to be unique by point symmetrical operations. In addition, an A2-like crystal structure is formed by connecting the bars between the models and filling the space. Four bonding patterns are found to configure the space of models with unique motifs according to symmetrical operations between the motifs of the center and neighbor atoms. Each crystal structure includes several kinds of point symmetry, and each shape memory binary alloy (SMBA) can be connected to the motifs on the atomic model via crystal structure and point symmetry. The results reveal the potential structure of the electron population distribution of each element in an SMBA that could be compared with ab initio calculations.

    The parent phases of many shape memory alloys (SMAs) are B2 or dis-ordered BCC crystal structures and the order of symmetry of martensite of the SMAs possesses lower symmetry than those of parent. Assumed that a polarity exists in the atomic binds at parent crystals, its motif lets the order to be lower than parent's symmetry. This potential symmetry in each parent crystal will be determined using by the point group theory so that there are 12 unique polarity arrangements. Furthermore, the four neighbor atomic relations are found according to consider polarities with the unique arrangements. This classification applies to the crystal symmetry in martensite of the SMAs.

    Mode I and mixed mode loading testing of ABS resin were carried out by using compact tension shear specimens. Two types of ABS resin were examined. The first one (ABS-1) has a butadiene rubber content of 18 wt % in the form of small particles of diameter of about 200 nm. The second one (ABS-2) has the same overall butadiene rubger content but a bimodal particle distribution with diameters of 200 nm and 500 nm. Crack initiation behavior was observed by using a video microscope. The fracture toughness of ABS-2 obtained by mode I testing is larger than that of ABS-1. The fracture angle for both materials under mixed mode loading coincides with the values predicted by the maximum hoop stress criterion. On the contrary, at crack initiation under mixed mode loading, the critical values of K_1 and K_<11> are larger than those estimated by the masimum hoop stress criterion. The increase in the critical values of K_1 and K_<11> under mixed mode loading for ABS-2 is higher than those for ABS-1. The bimodal type distribution of rubber particle size produces better fracture resistance.

    The effects of the thickness on the ultraviolet (UV) degradation was investigated for polypropylene (PP) and polycarbonate (PC) using"layering-films exposure test." In this test, the films were stacked up as a layer and exposed to UV-light by the weathermeter. After the exposure, tensile tests were conducted for each film. It was found that the failure strain of PP decreased with the irradiation time irrespective of the mask-film-thickness (MFT) although the tendency of the decrease became weaker for larger value of MFT. On the other hand the failure strain of PC decreased only for MFT=0μm. The fractographic observation by SEM and the chemical analysis by the infrared spectroscopy also confirmed that the UV degradation gradually extended along the thickness direction in PP while it was limited on the irradiated surface layer in PC. The decrease in failure strain was correlated to the irradiation UV energy by taking account of the molecular weight change due to main chain scission.

    Silica-particulate-filled epoxide resins are used as encapsulant materials in semiconductor packaging. In the present paper, the effects of moisture absorption on the bending strength and fracture toughness of two types of the epoxide resins containing 70wt.% silica particles have been studied. The bridge indentation method was employed in precracking of specimens. The fracture toughness obtained agreed well with the results of fatigue precracked specimens. The fracture toughness of both resins slightly increased with moisture absorption while the bending strength tended to decrease. Fracture surface observation by scanning laser microscope shows that debonding of the interface between silica and epoxy predominates in the fracture surface of the bonding specimens while cracking of silica particles triggers the fracture of the precracked specimen. It is suggested that differences in bending strength and fracture toughness due to moisture absorption are attributable to differences in the stress triaxiality of the specimens.

    It is well known that sunlight induces the ultraviolet (UV) degradation of polymers. This paper describes the effects of UV irradiation on the change of mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP)and polycarbonate (PC) films. After the specimens were exposed to UV light from the fluorescent UV apparatus, some specimens were subjected to a dead load afterwards the exposures. Tensile tests and dynamic viscoelastic mechanical tests were conducted. In addition, infrared spectrum and molecular weight were measured in order to investigate changes in chemical properties. (1) The degradation of mechanical properties due to UV irradiation is divided into two periods, i. e., the degradation-incubation period and degradation-development period. The failure strain does not change in the first period, and gradually decreases with increase of the integrated UV irradiation energy. The applied stress during irradiation has a tendency to accelerate degradation. (2) The temperature during exposure influences degradation considerably when it is greater than the glass transition temperature. (3) The reason for the existence of the incubation period is different for two materials. PP has no active bases originally for light-induced chemical reaction, and thus a certain period is necessary to initiate scission of main chains. On the other hand, PC has active bases but the second conjugation is strong. Therefore a certain number of main chain scissions are required to decrease the failure strain.

    A measuring system of strain distribution has been developed to analyze the mechanical behavior of polymer film. The system is composed of the material testing section and the image processing section. A lattice pattern is printed on the specimen surface. During material testing, the deformation of the pattern is recorded by a VCR camera. After the test, some parts of the recorded image data are digitized. Each datum is treated as follows : (I) smoothing to remove naise, (II) selection of the areas including a crosspoint using the image recognition technique based on the neural network, (III) determination of the coordinate of the crosspoint using the minimum square method, (IV) formation of the triangular mesh model, (V) determining the strain distributions of the specimen computed by applying a similer method used in the finite element method. To demonstrate the applicability of the present method, the strain distributions of a dumbbell-type specimen of polyethylene film under tensile testing are determined using this system.

    The effects of humidity on the mechanical behavior of polyamide-6 (PA) and cellulose-acetate (CA) were investigated. The specimens were exposed in a chamber at constant temperature and humidity for 4∼16 days, and measurements were made on the variations of weight and tensile properties. In addition infrared analysis was conducted using the attenuated total reflectance attachment with a KRS-5 prism. The result are as follows : ( 1 ) In PA, there exists a linear relationship between the weight change and the maximum stress ; i. e. it becomes heavier and more ductile when it is exposed to high humidity and temperature. The main factor of the weight change is moisture absorption and/or desiccation, and this relationship also holds for the specimens under dry-wet cyclic exposure. ( 2 ) The variation of yield stress of CA is correlated well with its weight change but not with the exposed humidity. IR spectroscopy shows that the weight change of CA occurrs by dispersion of plasticizer as well as by absorption of water. Due to dispersion of plasticizer, the variation of the yield stress under dry-wet cyclic exposure is nonreversible.

    This paper presents a method to detemine the distribution of the Younng's modulus of function-ally gradient materials by bending testing. In the method, the measured values of the flexural rigidity, which are obtained by reducing the height of the specimen, are used to inversely analyze the distribution of the modulus across the thickness. The solution is obtained through minimizing the residual between measured data and estimated values. The Davidon-Fletcher-Powell method is employed for minimization of the error. The practical applicability of the method is examined through several examples.

    In order to examine the effects of plastic deformation on the stress fields near the bonding edge, an elastic-plastic finite-element analysis was performed on a bimaterial plate. The materials above and below the interface were assumed to be different from each other in Young's modulus and/or yield stress. The plate was subjected to a prescribed uniform axial displacement along the upper boundary. Computation has been performed for various combinations of the material constants, and the following results were obtained. ( 1 )Development of the plastic region is affected not only by the yield stress but also by the elastic modulus. ( 2 )Stress concentration of tensile stress at the edge disappears as yield region extends. ( 3 ) Stress concentration of shear stress at the edge is expressed by |γ|=Kr<SUP>-λ</SUP> under general yielding, and the value of λ takes a constant (λ<SUB>p</SUB>) for a wide range of the deformation stage. ( 4 )The value of λ<SUB>p</SUB> is affected by the ratio of Young's moduli when the ratio of the yield stresses is small.

    Environmental degradation due to temperature and humidity has been studied by infrared (IR) spectroscopy on polyethylene (PE), cellulose-acetate (CA) and polycarbonate (PC) films. Specimens were exposed in a vessel at a constant temperature and humidity for 12∼40 days, and tensile tests of the specimens were carried out at room temperature. The weight, the water absorption and the IR-absorption spectra of the specimens were also measured before the exposure and after. Due to the effects of environment, the change of the weight and water absorption occurred for CA, but not for PE and PC. For CA the weight decreased for all exposure conditions while the water absroption increased with humidity. The variation of fracture strain and yield stress was observed for CA, but not for PE and PC. Similarly, only for CA the rate of IR absorption at 745 and 1288 cm<SUP>-1</SUP> decreased with humidity. Linear relationships were found between mechanical properties and the rate of IR absorption.

    Low-temperature strength is investigated for polyethylene film used for the observation balloons. Tension tests using danbel-type specimens and crack growth tests using the edge-cracked specimens have been conducted in the temperature range from 20°C to -40°C. The stress-strain curves show little anisotropy, and the yield stress increases as temperature decreases. The maximum load of edge-cracked specimens with the same initial crack length also increases as temperature drops, while elongation at fracture decreases after taking its maximum at 0°C. The crack-tip opening angle at steady-state propagation is a constant independent of the initial crack length and is considered to be a material constant. This value decreases as temperature decreases, and the crack tip becomes sharp at low temperatures. The net section stress at steady-state propagation is also constant under the present experimental conditions. The relationship between the J-integral and crack extension exhibits two straight lines and the value of the J-integral increases as temperature decreases.

    We investigate here the load transfer between femur and prosthesis following total hip replacement. First, compression tests using a human cadaveric femur are conducted. Then plaster models for the femur are made from the molds taken from the femur. We believe thet the plaster model femur can allow us to distinguish the minute differences affected from experimental setups. Utilizing the five kinds of cementing materials and the two kinds of prosthesis stems, the effects of the modulus of the cementing materials to the strain distribution on the model femur are examined. Further, a numerical analysis method based on the beam theory is proposed, and the load transfer problems between femur and prosthesis are solved by the Runge-Kutta method. The numerical results obtained are in good agreement with the experimental results, which indicates that the distal load transfer between femur and prosthesis takes place in a manner similar to that between two beams. Both the experimental and analytical results predict that the strain distribution induced on the femur with implanted prosthesis differs from the physiological one considerably; i. e. the strain at the calcar is maximum before implantation whereas the strain at the distal point become dominant after implantation. It may be concluded that the stress shielding can't be avoided as long as the presently available prostheses are utilized.

    This study is the influence of elastcrplastic behaviors on low carbon steels by heat treatments. The mechanical tests are conducted and the stress-strain curves obtained for quenching, quenching-tempering, normalizing and as forging specimens. The microstructures were observed for checking effects of the heat treatments. 600 degree quenching-tempering specimen observes carbides. By specific heat treatment the low carbon steel exhibited the stress stable range on the curves but no pseudoelasticity in this case.

    In our laboratory, research works on developing the pseudo-elasticity effect (SE) in steel was done in previous years. In 2009, the work focused on the evaluation for the elasto-plasticity of the heat-treated low carbon steel with Si composition. The minor composed(Si, P) low carbon steel was used as samples, which then were heat-treated by means of quenching and quench-tempering. Failure test was conducted for each sample, and elasto-plasticity evaluation done by analyzing the Stress-Strain curve obtained. It is found that Si composition has effect in hardening samples, which can be explained by discussing the Si influence in retardation of cementite precipitation in low carbon steel.

    This study examines the rotation transmission performance by the diaphragm shape of diaphragm coupling. The stress state produced in diaphragm of the polyimide material was determined by analyzing the reaction force in each shaft using a finite element method, using allowable lateral misalignment is occurred in coupling between a drive shaft and driven shaft. Next, the stress state was analyzed the same diaphragm shape when angular misalignment occurred. It was examined that diaphragm shape by evaluating rotation transmission performance through lateral misalignment and angular misalignment.

    We investigated the improvement in strength and the fracture mode at the fracture of float glass by laminating a film and clarify the strengthening processes. The three-point bending test was conducted with the float glasses laminated with the film in several lengths of the support span and the fracture surfaces of the glass were observed for evaluating the effect of the film lamination. As a result, there are the two kinds of fracture modes, Bending and Hertzian modes, could be expressed by the test. The fracture direction and initiating points were also identified by observing the fracture surface and the mechanism of the fracture modes change and the cause was revealed.

    It is prepared the thin films and the powders of Mg-based hydrogen storage alloys laminated or mixed with Fe and Ti for keeping the hydrogen storage capacity and then decreasing the desorption temperature. I estimated the formation of MgH2 by X-ray diffraction, the release temperature measurement by DSC measurement, the hydrogen absorption amount by PCT measurement. The Polyimide(PI)/Mg/Fe/Pd and PI/Fe/Mg/Ti multilayer films that prepared by vacuum evaporation method express that the temperature of hydrogen desorption decreased up to 200°C although it depends on the thickness of Mg. On the other hand, the storage capacity is 4.5%, and further improvement is necessary.

    Magnesium is one of alternative materials for hydrogen storage since that is abundant and reasonable resource although the high temperature more than 300 °C is needed for nucleating its hydride and dissolving and what is a barrier of the application to automobile and so on. Alloying it to some transition metals might be one of the solutions to improving the property and it has not been got the enough result for the application. It was shown that the three kinds of processing, grinding the crystal grain by mechanical alloying, thinning the film by vacuum deposition and super-layering thin film by cold pressing are effective for better hydrogen absorption and desorption. It was also shown that the activated Knudsen flow developed the amount of hydrogen absorption and desorption for LaNi5 property.

    The mechanism of the pseudo-elasticity is studied according to the revealed mechanism of shape memory alloy and then the alloy having the behavior is considered. First, this study presents a simple interatomic bonding model for disordered A2 and B2 crystal structures. Only 13 motifs were found as unique by point symmetrical operations and classified in terms of the point groups. Four bonding patterns were found for configuring the space of models with unique motifs according to symmetrical operations between the motifs of the center and neighbor atoms. Each shape memory binary alloy can then be connected to the motifs on the atomic model via the crystal syngony and point symmetry. Second, the amount of the strain energy of Ni-Ti alloy during deformation is compared with that of heat flow with DSC during heating and the equality at the balances of both is found. Third, Three kinds of Fe-based alloys are conducted on elastic and plastic deformation tests and considered the pseudo-l asticity.

    本研究では,様々なミクロ相構造を有したPC系ポリマーアロイを供試材として,引張試験,破壊試験を行うとともに,有限要素解析によって縦弾性係数の変化を調べた.まず,成分比の異なる6種類のPC/ABSポリマーアロイのモルフォロジ,引張特性ならびに破壊靱性について調べた.その結果,含有率が60%以上においてPCは連続相となり,ABSでは40%以上で連続相となった、さらに,PCとABSの配合比が60%と40%の場合に両樹脂とも連続相となった.ポアソン比,降伏応力ならびに引張強さは複合則を溝たす一方,縦弾性係数はPCとABS両相がともに連続相のモルフォロジで最大値を示した.破壊靭性値はPCとABSの配合比が60%と40%の場合に最大となるが,き裂進展抵抗はPC100%の場合より低い.一方,PCとABSの配合比が80%と20%の場合では,き裂進展抵抗が最大値を取り,破壊靭性値も比較的高い値を取った.以上の結果から,PCが連続相でABSが分散相のモルフォロジにおいて,き裂進展抵抗特性が向上することが分かった.電子顕微鏡観察の結果から,PCが連続相でABSが分散相のモルフォロジの場合には,ABS相の剥離による三軸応力の解放と,ABS相の損傷によるエネルギ消費の相乗効果によって,靭性が強化される事が分かった.次に,有限要素法を用いて成分比の異なるPC/ABSをモデル化し,様々なモルフォロジに対して,応力とひずみの関係を求める解析を行い,材料の特性が縦弾性係数に及ぼす影響について検討した.その結果,縦弾性曲線の傾向が凸型となるのはPC材正方形の中にABS材正方形が入っている状態で平面ひずみ状態,ABS材ポアソン比が0.49の場合とPC材立方体の中にABS材立方体が入っている状態で側面自由,ABS材ポアソン比が0.49の場合であり,いずれもポアソン比の値が大きい.このことから重量比に対する縦弾性曲線が凸型となるのは,側面が収束できる状態においてポアソン比の高い物質が内部に存在する場合と考えられる.

    To investigate the effect of morphology of multiphase polymer on the mechanical properties, Experiments are carried on Polycarbonate (PC), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) and PC/ABS blends. The yield stress, Possions ratio and tensile strength follow the law of mixture. On the other hand, the maximum value of fracture resistance is obatained for PC/ABS of weight ratios 80/20. For this PC/ABS, ABS particels are distributed in PC matrix. It was also shown that the fracture strain and the fracture plastic strain energy density decrease for PC and PC/ABS blends, but increases for ABS, with the increase of stress triaxiality. It can be concluded that tensile stress triaxiality makes PC brittle, but results in the toughening of ABS and PC/ABS blends, which is significantly different from the conventional metallic materials. It is also shown that rubber content has important effect on the deformation, fracture and toughening of PC/ABS blends.

    本年度はPC/ABS樹脂を供試材とした.本材料はブタジエンゴムとAS樹脂で作られた非相溶2成分系のABS樹脂にポリカーボネイト(PC)を混合して作られた3成分系のポリマーアロイである.成分比の異なる6種類の試験片を作成し,透過型電子顕微鏡によるモルフォロジ観察を行った.その結果,PC/ABSが60%/40%の時,両材料とも連続相を形成し,それ以外の成分比の時は成分量の多い方が連続相で,少ない方が分散相となった.この試験片を用いて,延性破壊試験を行った.これは,丸棒状の試験片中央円周上に半径Rの溝を作り,軸方向に引張荷重を負荷し,破断する試験である.半径Rの値を0.8mmから∞(平滑試験片に相当する.)まで変化させることによって,溝部の3軸応力状態を変化させる.各の3軸応力状態における材料の破壊挙動の変化を調べることによって,材料の微視的構造が延性に及ぼす影響を評価することができる.PCは3軸応力度が増加するに従って,延性は低下した.これは,一般的な金属材料と同じ傾向である.一方,ABS樹脂は3軸応力度の増加と共に,延性も増加した.これは,内部に存在するゴム粒子の破裂は3軸応力に支配的であり,3軸応力度の増加と共に破裂に要する応力が低下したと考えられる.さらに,ゴム粒子の破裂は粒子近傍の応力を解放し,その結果,ゴム粒子の周囲の局所で塑性変形が生じる.これらの機構によって,一般的な金属材料とは全く逆の傾向を示したと考えられる.さらに,PC/ABSにおいては,3軸応力度の増加と共に延性は低下したが,重量分率が80:20の時には,延性低下の傾向は緩やかとなる.これは,先に述べたABSの延性増加機構が有効に作用したためと考えられる.

    A plasma sprayd coating process had been applied to gas turbine for using in the parts which are exposed to aggressive enviroment such as an oxidation, corrosion, etc.Recently, a plasma sprayd zirconia coating as thermal barrier coating has been developing for protecting the hot parts such as blades and nozzles from a high-temperature environment. In this paper, 4-point bending tests at high-temperature were conducted on plasma sprayd zirconia and its mechanical properties were examined. As a result, it was found that the high-temperature bending strength was about 40-50MPa and very lower than of sintered zirconia. On the other hand, the ductility of the plasma sprayd zirconia was higher than the sintered zirconia. The SEM observation results of fractured surface indicated that many defects such as debonding and microcrack caused the lower bending strength and the higher ductility.

    The intelligent aided system for the estimation of contact stress on designing a machine is developed. This system can be used by a man who design the machine has the contact parts, e.g.bearing, gear and connecting pipe. This system is based on the information of analytical contact stress which is investigated by this researchers and includes the intelligent database of several kinds of contact conditions. the parts of this system are as follows ; (1) the network application : this part plays the role making the open system on the Internet. (2) the engine of contact stress analysis : this part processes the contact stress analysis. Because we may use the mathematical equation processing software, the system becomes sophisticated. (3) the database : this part reserves the information of our contact stress invstigations. (4) the linker application : this part connects the each parts. CGI is used between the network application and the engine of contact stress analysis and between the network application and the database. The Applescript is applied for the control of contacting between other parts. (5) the front-end interface : this part plays the role to ocnnect a user to this system. This part is constructed using the Hypertext format. Thus, it is convenient to access the documents using the Internet. Furthermore, this system can be opened on the Internet and easily used by a designer even if he is not an expert.

    高延性高分子材料の破壊靱性評価は困難を伴う.これは,高延性材料の多くはその靱性が高いので,通常の材料評価に用いられる線形破壊力学の適用が困難となるからである,また,高分子材料特有の現象であるキ裂先端でのクレーズの発生によって,靱性の評価を,特にき裂長さや塑性域の大きさの測定を困難にしている.そこで,高延性高分子材料の静的および動的破壊靱性評価を行い,定量的な破壊靱性評価のための動的な試験方法を提案し,静的な試験における結果との関係を明確にした.本研究は以下の通りに行われた.
    (1)熱可塑性高分子材料,熱硬化性高分子材料,ポリマーアロイの中から,PC,ABS,PMMA,PC/ABSを選択し試験に供した.(2)射出成形加工によって試験片を製作し,フライス加工によって最終形状に仕上げた.(3)材料試験機によって静的な引張試験を行い,各材料の縦弾性係数,ポアソン比,降伏応力,引張強さ,破断ひずみならびに応力--ひずみ関係等を測定する.(4)弾塑性破壊靱性試験方法に準じて,3点曲げあるいはCT試験による静的な破壊靱性試験を行い,破壊靱性値およびき裂進展抵抗等を測定した.(5)落錘型衝撃試験機によって,動的な破壊靱性値を測定した.この時,衝撃棒,試験片,試験片保持用治具等にひずみゲージを添付し,試験片形状,衝撃速度,試験片保持方法等の検討を行った.(6)各試験後の試験片の破断面をVTR顕微鏡,レーザー顕微鏡ならびに走査型電子顕微鏡で詳細に観察した.

  • 機能性高分子薄膜のき裂先端クレーズ破壊メカニズムの解明

    本研究では,プラスチックフィルムの破壊過程をき裂先端クレーズ破壊の微視的観点に立脚して観察,測定している.このため,まず試験片のマイクロスコープ観察を可能にした小型引張試験機を製作した.ついでポリプロピレンおよびポリカーボネイト供試材について,母材およびデューパネル光コントロールウェザ-メータにて紫外線照射したものについて,き裂進展試験を行い,以下の結論を得た.(1)PC材およびPP材とも紫外線照射量があるしきい値を超えると材料は急激に損傷を受けて劣化する.すなわち,PC材では,照射量5750kJ/m2付近までは紫外線照射量が増加するのにつれて,破断伸びは徐々に減少したが,最大荷重はほとんど変動しなかった.しかし,約5750kJ/m2を超えると破断伸びおよび最大荷重は共に急激に減少した.一方PP材では,2000kJ/m2辺りまでは最大荷重および破断伸びは殆ど変化を生じなかったが,それ以上の照射量では破断伸びおよび最大荷重は急激に減少した.(2)き裂進展試験において,き裂が進展し始める前に,き裂先端領域において,PC材では塑性域の拡がりを生じたが,PP材ではこのような現象を生じなかった.
    (3)PP材およびPC材ともに,き裂進展中のCTOAはほぼ一定であったが,進展速度は徐々に増加した.(4)紫外線照射したPC材の引張試験の結果,3種類の破壊過程:き裂先端の塑性域はリガメント全域まで拡がり,き裂はこの塑性域中を進展しながら破断に至る;初め塑性域中を進展していたき裂は,ある時期から急速に進展しはじめ,塑性域を超えて脆性的な破壊を生ずる.この過程でマイクロクラックがボイドなどを生ずる;き裂先端における塑性域の発生がほとんど見られない脆性的不安定破壊が起こる.

    A measuring system of deformation and strain distribution has been developed in order to evaluate the deformable structures such as dome structure or space structure. The system which is developed in this study is composed of the material testing section and the image processing section. In the meterial section, a new type of testing machine has been constructed in which the chacking parts can move symmetrically on the both side, so that observation region does not move during loading in one direction. The deformation of the pattern is recorded by a VCR camera and is transmitted to the micro-computer afrer the tests.
    The two types of image processing methods have been considered. In the first method, a lattice pattern is printed on the specimen surface and a cross point is searched by the image recognition technique base on the neural network. In the actual image data, the influence of the noise can not be removed, so that a manual treatment is required to compensate the lack of the image recognition. Determination of the strain distribution is performed by applying a similar method used in the finite element method. In the second method, a random dot pattern is printed on the specimen, the defamation of the specimen is evaluated by the pattern matching the image data before and after deformation.
    The present method is applied to study the mechanism of wrinkle formation due to localized heating of thin plastic films. The good agreement is obtained between the results of the image processing and finite element analysis. It is found that the magnitude of the negative value of principal stress could be used as an appropriate critical parameter for predicting initiation of wrinkle.

    1.ポリアミドー6とセルロースアセテートを供試材として暴露試験と引張試験を行い,重量変化と機械的特性の変化を調ベた。また,同時に赤外吸収スペクトルを測定し、赤外分光分析を行った。それにより,以下の結論を得た。
    (1)PAにおいては,重量変化と引張強さの間には線形関係が成立する。すなわち,高湿度環境下で暴露されると重量と延性が増加し,低湿度環境下では逆の傾向となる。さらに,この関係は暴露履歴に依存せず,大気中の水分の吸排湿が重量変化の主要因であり,PAの暴露湿度に対する引張強さの変化は,材料が吸排湿した水分量によって決定される。
    (2)CAにおいては,単一状態に暴露した場合には重量変化と降伏応力の変化量の間には線形関係が成立する。しかし,PAとは異なり,可塑剤の飛散が生じるので高温高湿度下では吸湿による変化を相殺し,重量,降伏応力とも変化量が僅かとなる。また,複合暴露試験の結果は先の線形関係上に位置せず,CAの暴露湿度に対する降伏応力の変化については,水分の吸排湿だけでなく可塑剤の飛散まで考慮する必要がある。
    2.ポリプロピレンおよびポリカーボネイトフィルムを供試材として,紫外線,温度,応力の組み合わせによる暴露試験を行った。その後,引張試験,粘弾性測定,赤外分光分析を行い,以下の結論を得た。
    (1)PPにおける紫外線劣化は,高温状態であるほど促進され,暴露試験期間中に負荷された応力による影響は少ない。さらに,Tg点におけるtanδが減少した。
    (2)PCにおける紫外線劣化は,温度による影響は少ないが,暴露試験期間中に負荷された応力によって劣化が促進される傾向がある。

    (1) Using two kinds of materials for Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus, the mechanical models of composite material as three laminated were made. Firstly, tension tests were carried out and stress-strain curves were obtained. Secondly, fatigue tests were carried out and SN-curves were taken. After that, the fracture surface of the specimens were observed. We discussed the behavior of fracture.
    (2) When the mechanical model of composite material was loaded, stress occurring in it was calculated. On microscopic structure, Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio are not constants in a composite material. We proposed an inverse analysis method using the deflection of a beam given by experiments and to estimate the Young modulus distribution in composite materials. The basic equation used elemental beam theory and the calculation method used the optimization method using DFP-method. Further, these results were compared with the results obtained by a finite element method analysis, and confirmed the effectivity of the resolution.
    (3) Using some kinds of polymer materials the model experiments were conducted and degradation of polymer composite matrix was investigated. After each matrix was exposed to constant temperature and moisture in the chamber a specified, tension tests and Charpy impact tests were conducted. The fracture surface of these specimens were observed by microscopy and electric microscopy and we discussed the behavior of fracture. Measurements of weight and moisture using the infra-red moisture equipment were conducted. Moreover by infra-red spectroscope, which was purchased last year, the changes of chemical strucutre of matrix due to degradation were observed. We admitted the relation between mechanical properties and IR spectra.
