    Demands for machining of three-dimensional (3D) complex geometries over a large area with nanometer scale accuracy have recently increased in the various industrial sectors. In order to meet such requirements, it is necessary to realize not only a machine tool with nanometer scale machining accuracy, but also a coordinate measuring machine with a nanometer scale measuring resolution for evaluating the machined parts profile. A scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and atomic force microscope (AFM) probes have a high measuring resolution. However, in the STM, the specimen to be measured needs to have conductivity, and the AFM cannot measure a step shape or a slope. It is thought that the application of the profile measurement by the AFM probe can be expanded, by development the AFM probe suitable for the measurement of the slope shape. Therefore, this study proposed a novel AFM probe suitable for measuring the slope shape by using a low rigidity spring. In addition, the basic characteristics of the proposed AFM probe was experimentally investigated. Investigation results confirmed that the proposed AFM probe can detect atomic forces acting between the specimen and the probe.

    Demands for measuring three-dimensional (3D) micro-geometries over a large scanning range have recently increased in a various industries such as aerospace, dies and molds, energy, etc. This paper presents a newly developed 3D profile measuring system with both a large scanning range (18mm×18mm×10mm) and a nanometer resolution. The profile measuring system developed is consisted of an AFM probing system and a newly developed 3D nano-motion system with a large travel range. Elimination of motion errors in the nano-motion system enables the AFM probe to scan a specimen with a nanometer resolution. The measurement results of an optical lens confirmed that the developed system achieves high measurement accuracy over a large scanning range.

    Vibration isolation has been widely used for precision machining systems to reduce vibration errors caused by disturbance. In general, vibration isolation units have mechanical contact points between a base and a table, while ground vibration passes through these contact points. This paper presents a newly developed non-contact type active vibration isolation unit which consists of an air spring, a voice coil motor, and an aerostatic bearing. The developed unit also has an active vibration control function to reduce an influence of direct disturbance force. Vibration isolation experiments confirm that the resonances in ground vibration transmission and direct disturbance transmission can be reduced and the influence of ground vibration can be decreased.

    It is important to evaluate the effective life of an artificial joint. The sliding test with a joint simulator is applied to evaluate of the life of an artificial joint. However, the sliding test with a joint simulator requires high cost and easier sliding test method for evaluation of the life is required. A pin-on-plate test method with 1 axis and a pin-on-plate test method are easy, but insufficient to evaluate the life of an artificial joint. Then, in this study, 2 axes pin-on-plate method was proposed for evaluation of the life of an artificial joint. Furthermore, the effective life of an artificial joint was estimated from the amount of UHMWPE wear.

    In this study, a method to separate blood vessel thickness and blood flow velocity information from laser speckle information of multiple wavelengths was proposed, for the purpose of realizing simultaneous measurement of blood vessel thickness and blood flow velocity.
    A blood vessel thickness measurement principle evaluation experimental device with a flow path that imitated a blood vessel was constructed, and a measurement experiment using two-wavelength laser speckles of 420 nm and 780 nm was conducted. From the experimental results, it was cleared that the measurement method proposed enables simultaneous measurement of blood vessel thickness and blood flow velocity in principle.
    Furthermore, similar experiments were performed using two-wavelength infrared laser speckles of 780 nm and 850 nm, and it was shown that simultaneous measurement of blood vessel thickness and blood flow velocity is possible even from two-wavelength infrared laser speckles.

    In this study, in order to realize the profile measurement by the optical probe with a high horizontal resolution, an optical profile measurement system by the collecting laser irradiation. Results of the optical simulation showed that the proposed optical probe had higher horizontal resolution compared with the conventional optical probe. In addition, experimental results confirmed that the profile calculation method determined from the simulation results can measure the specimen shape. From these results, it was shown that the proposed optical probe by the collecting laser irradiation is effective as a method of improving the horizontal resolution of optical probe.

    Demands for machining three-dimensional geometries have increased. It is difficult to apply a fast tool servo technique to milling process by rotational tools. This research aims to develop a new tool servo technology. The new concept of tool servo driven by a giant magnetostrictive actuator was proposed in this project, and a prototype system was developed. The developed mechanism can be characterized by a compact structure, a noncontact structure, and high accuracy. Performance evaluation results confirm that the developed tool servo system provides precise linear motion during rotating. Furthermore, to realize the positioning without additional displacement sensors a new estimating method of displacement using a magnetostrictive actuator as a sensor device was also proposed, and the experimental results shows that the method can estimate deformation of actuator and be used for feedback.

    This research proposed the new measurement method which can measure directly the linear speed using a slow light and an optical gyroscope. The experimental device for evaluating the principle of the measurement method was set, and the speed measurement experiments were conducted. As a result, correlation was found between the frequency of detected light and speed, and the possibility of the proposed measurement method was shown. However, the same result was obtained in the speed measurement experiments without using a slow light. Therefore, it is thought that the speed was detected by the principle different from the proposed principle. This research showed that it is important to clarify the detection principle of the speed in these experiments.

    This research developed a compact type three-dimensional profile measuring system named "Compact Nano-Profiler" which achieve both a measuring range of several 10 mm and a measurement resolution of 1 nm. By combining a compact XY planar nano-motion table system, a vertical nano-motion platform with gravity compensating function and an ultra-fine probing system, the compact nano-profiler with a dynamically and thermally stable structure was newly developed and then the performances of the system were evaluated. As a result, performance evaluation results confirmed that the developed measuring system has both a positioning resolution of 1 nm and high measuring stability. In addition, a series of measuring test results confirmed the developed measuring system has a high reproducibility of nanometer scale measurement. Furthermore, use of an AFM probing system made it possible to effectively measure an insulator such as glass lens, ceramics, etc.

    本研究では人工関節の長寿命化,具体的には人工関節の耐用年数を15年程度から30年以上に向上させることを目的として,人工関節の摺動面における摩耗のメカニズムに検討を加え,耐摩耗性の向上に適した多孔構造のサイズ,形状,および機械的特性を提案した.さらに,摺動実験によりその有効性を検証した.
    人工関節の長寿命化を実現するためには,人工関節の摺動面における超高分子量ポリエチレン(UHMWPE)の摩耗を低減することが必要不可欠である.従来,人工関節の金属コンポーネントの摺動面は鏡面仕上げを施すことが前提となっているが,摺動面の表面性状と摩耗の関係が明らかにされておらず,鏡面が摩耗の低減において最適とは限らない.そのため,摩耗の低減を実現するためには,摺動面の表面性状と摩耗の関係を明らかにすることが必要である.
    これに対して,本研究では,人工関節におけるUHMWPEの摩耗のメカニズムを検討し,金属1コンポーネントの表面に存在する平均径4μm程度の析出物が摺動によって脱落し,スクラッチ痕を発生させる主要な原因となることを示した.この結果を元に,摺動面内に存在する平均径4μm程度の粒子によるスクラッチ痕の発生を抑制でき,その結果として摩耗量を最も少なくできる多孔構造として,平均深さ1μm程度の微小ディンプル構造が適していることを明らかにした.この金属側表面の多孔構造を効率よく創成でき,かつ,要求される人工関節の形状精度を損ねない方法として,アブレシブウォータージェット加工技術を採用し,加工実験により,効率よく上記多孔構造の創成が可能であることを示した.
    さらに,摺動実験におけるUHMWPEの摩耗量の比較により,金属側表面を平均深さ1μm程度の微小ディンプル構造とすることにより,UHMWPEの摩耗量を従来の場合の1/2以下に低減でき,35年程度の耐用年数の実現が見込めることを示した.
