<div>The increasing demand for quiet and efficient electric vehicles has highlighted the importance of understanding vibration and noise characteristics of motor stators. Previous studies have extensively modeled electromagnetic excitation and laminated structures, but there has been little experimental evidence clarifying how different interlaminate fastening methods affect vibration modes under comparable conditions. This knowledge gap limits the ability to optimize fastening strategies for noise and vibration control in practical motor design. In this study, laminated stator cores were fabricated with different fastening conditions—bolting, clinching, and welding—and subjected to vibration testing and experimental modal analysis. Natural frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes were identified for torsional, circumferential, and breathing modes. The results revealed that the in-plane torsional natural frequencies increase with bolt axial force, while clinching provides additional resistance to interlaminate movement but shows only a minor dependence on the number of clinching points. In contrast, the circumferential modes and the breathing-type (0,0) mode remain largely unaffected by these fastening variations. Welding points did not exhibit a consistent trend across the tested conditions, indicating that their influence on the modal properties is less systematic compared with bolting and clinching. The findings contribute not only to fundamental understanding of laminated stack vibration behavior but also to practical guidelines for designing fastening strategies that enhance vibration robustness and acoustic performance in automotive electric motors.</div>

    Abstract

Recently, data-driven approaches to predict the dynamical properties of nonlinear dynamical systems have become popular in the field of structural dynamics. Dynamic mode decomposition with control (DMDc) is an application of dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) to dynamical systems with control terms, which can now be applied to systems that receive external input. In this paper, we propose short-time dynamic mode decomposition (STDMD), which represents the spatio-temporal characteristics of a system by means of operators constructed for each short-time domain with a time window for swept external input and their state snapshot pairs. Based on the physical properties obtained, the time response and the frequency response of the system during steady-state vibration are clarified when the system is time evolved by external input data under conditions different from those used to construct the DMDc and STDMD models. As a numerical analysis, a forced vibration system by mass-spring-damper system that can be expressed by the Duffing equation is used. First, as in general studies, time evolution of the system was attempted using the same external force data as the external input used for model construction. Next, snapshots of the system under harmonic excitation were used for DMD model construction, and the time history and frequency responses were investigated using external input data under harmonic excitation at different frequencies for time evolution. Finally, data from the system undergoing swept sine excitation were used for model construction, and harmonic excitation data at each frequency within the sweep range were used for time evolution. Prediction of the time and frequency responses by ordinary DMDc was a linear approach that was able to represent nonlinear characteristics, but prediction became difficult when the nonlinearity was strong. On the other hand, the frequency response obtained by STDMD has been shown to be able to represent nonlinear characteristics such as jump phenomenon and hysteresis, even for systems with strong nonlinearities.

Abstract
The use of a simplified physical model of the tire of road vehicles is an efficient and simultaneous method to study the specifications of the entire chassis, including the tire specifications. Therefore, it is important to develop a simplified physical model that can be used in the early design phase when detailed computer-aided design data are not available. In this study, a vibration analysis of tires in road contact is described using frequency-based substructuring in a three-dimensional elastic ring model of a tire that includes a brush model simulating the tread rubber. By modeling the brush as a contact spring between the tire and the road surface, the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the tire under load conditions can be calculated using point-coupled three-way contact spring constraints. The experimental results show that the natural frequency changes significantly with road contact and does not depend on the vertical load. The theoretical analysis also showed that the natural frequency does not change when the stiffness of the contact spring is large enough to limit the displacement of the road contact, which is consistent with the experimental results. Unlike previous studies, this method calculates the mode shape with road contact based on the mode shape without road contact; therefore, the required model parameters can be determined based on the experimental modal analysis for the free-free condition.

Abstract
This paper proposes a method for identifying an initial gap in piecewise-linear (PWL) systems from data. Piecewise-linear systems appear in many engineered systems such as degraded mechanical systems and infrastructures and are known to show strong nonlinearities. To analyze the behavior of such piecewise-linear systems, it is necessary to identify the initial gap, at which the system behavior switches. The proposed method identifies the initial gap by discovering the governing equations using sparse regression and calculating the gap based on the universal approximation theorem. A key step to achieve this is to approximate a piecewise-linear function by a finite sum of piecewise-linear functions in sparse regression. The equivalent gap is then calculated from the coefficients of the multiple piecewise-linear functions and their respective switching points in the obtained equation. The proposed method is first applied to a numerical model to confirm its applicability to piecewise-linear systems. Experimental validation of the proposed method has then been conducted with a simple mass-spring-hopping system, where the method successfully identifies the initial gap in the system with high accuracy.

Abstract
In this paper, the forced response of a two degrees-of-freedom (DOF) bilinear oscillator with initial gaps involving inelastic collision is discussed. In particular, a focus is placed upon the experimental verification of the generalized bilinear amplitude approximation (BAA) method, which can be used for the accurate estimation of forced responses for bilinear systems with initial gaps. Both experimental and numerical investigations on the system have been carried out. An experimental setup that is capable of representing the dynamics of a 2DOF oscillator has been developed, and forced response tests have been conducted under swept-sine base excitation for different initial gap sizes. The steady-state response of the system under base excitation was computed by both traditional time integration and BAA. It is shown that the results of experiments and numerical predictions are in good agreement especially at resonance. However, slight differences in the responses obtained from both numerical methods are observed. It was found that the time duration where the DOFs are in contact with each other predicted by BAA is longer than that predicted by time integration. Spectral analyses have also been conducted on both experimental and numerical results. It was observed that in a frequency range where intermittent contact between the masses occurs, super-harmonic components of the excitation frequency are present in the spectra. Moreover, as the initial gap size increases, the frequency band where the super-harmonic components are observed decreases.

Abstract
This paper discusses the dynamic characteristics of plastic plates with bolted joints. The effects of tightening torque on the modal properties of the plates are investigated. Experimental and numerical modal analyses have been conducted on the plates made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), that are clamped by bolted joints. First, the effect of tightening torque on the vibration mode of the plates is investigated by experimental modal analyses. Modal testing has been conducted for various tightening torque values, and the relationships between the modal parameters and the tightening torques are discussed. Second, the effects of tightening torque on the vibration mode are studied by using analytical models for the bolted joints based on the finite element method (FEM). Based on the comparisons between the experimental and the numerical results, a modeling strategy for the boundary conditions between the plates is introduced and its validity is discussed. From both experimental and numerical studies, it is shown that the natural frequencies of the structures with bolted joints tend to converge to specific values as tightening torque increases. Moreover, it is also shown that when modeling the bolted plates by FEM, the inter-plate motion should be constrained by a boundary condition to properly suppress the out-of-phase motion of the plates.

The aim of this study is to develop a methodology to efficiently identify damages of mechanical structures based on the changes in their natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes. To this end, we have conducted the following: development of optimal sensor placement and mode shape selection methods and development of an inverse analysis method that can quantitatively relate measured vibration data with damages in the structure. As a result, with the proposed optimal sensor placement method, it was found that many sensors tend to be placed along the edges where crack is expected to be generated. Moreover, by utilizing the concept of topology optimization, it was found that the accuracy of the proposed damage identification method can greatly be improved.
