2019年度は関係資料の収集、研究会の開催、韓国調査の実施とともに、アジア留学生データベースの作成を開始した。
関係資料の収集は、国立国会図書館デジタルコレクションにおいて公開されている関係者名簿類や、国内外で刊行された人物事典類を対象に進めた。
研究会は明治大学駿河台キャンパスを中心に開催した。通常の研究会の他に、6月には『留学生は近代日本で何を学んだのか』（日本経済評論社、2018年）の書評会を実施し、9月には『中国人留学生と「国家」・「愛国」・「近代」』（東方書店、2019年）を刊行した神奈川大学のグループと、本研究メンバーを中心に刊行した『戦前期アジア留学生と明治大学』（東方書店、2019年）の合評会を、それそれ明治大学駿河台キャンパスで実施した。書評会、合評会では、アジア留学生をめぐる最新の研究状況を確認し、今後の研究課題などについても議論することができた。
韓国調査は8月に実施した。2名の明治大学卒業生にインタビューを実施し、さらに明治大学卒業生の同窓会に参加し、新たな関係情報の提供を受けた。また、孫基禎記念館などアジア留学生関係の博物館などを見学した。なお、2020年3月に予定していた台湾調査と国内（福岡市）調査は、新型コロナ感染拡大のために延期した。
アジア留学生データベースについては、アルバイト学生に作業を指示し、関係者名簿や中国・韓国内で刊行された人物事典等からアジア留学生を抽出する作業を開始した。 -

And analyzed the diary having been written by local elite in Jiangnan from 1910's. to 20's, clarified the extension of the political space and networks of him. We also held the symposium concerning the oral Jiangnan area study and local historical materials. -

本研究は、清末から民国初年にかけての江蘇省教育会について、その会員構成や意思決定過程、省内各県教育会や他省教育会、行政当局、あるいは商会・農会との関係を明らかにすることを目的とし、(1)会員構成の分析、(2)意思決定過程の分析、(3)県・市郷教育会、他法定団体との関係の分析、(4)行政当局との関係の分析、(5)人脈の分析を計画した。
江蘇省教育会機関誌『教育研究』をはじめとする教育会機関誌や行政当局の公報類を複写あるいは購入し、現在それらの内容を分析中である。特に(3)について、江蘇省教育会が辛亥革命・第2革命の直後の民国2年(1913年)に、当時統属関係になかった各県・市の教育会に各地の社会状況調査を依頼し、翌年の『教育研究』誌に掲載された各報告に注目した。そして現時点では、戦乱の中で学校運営が困難な状況にある長江以北と、価値観が大きく変化し近代教育の需要が高まりつつある長江以南とが、対照的であること、いずれの教育会も改革への思考が強く教育を取り巻く政治・経済的環境にきわめて批判的であることなどが明らかとなってきた。当面は、これら教育会がどのような会員構成にあり、当地の行政当局や商会と具体的にどのような関係にあったのか、江蘇省教育会がどのように関与し、南北格差から生じるであろう利害の不一致などにどう対処していたのかを、具体的に検討していきたい。 -
