    The article is devoted to the study, restoration, and reconstruction of a poplar box originating from kurgan No. 13 of the Urysay-2 burial site. This box contained a set of ritual objects associated with a female “priestess”. The box was positioned behind the head of the deceased and was a low, square container with straight sides and a separate flat lid. The specific set of objects found in the box included a mirror, a cedar block, a “spoon” with traces of paint, a small organic vessel (leather? felt?), and silk fabric, supplemented by a small stone altar and a set of tools found nearby. During fieldwork, the box was removed in one block. Subsequently, an MRI scan was performed; a comprehensive set of procedures was conducted to identify the material of the finds, their physicochemical composition, conservation, and restoration; a 3D reconstruction of the box and the items was carried out.

    Статья посвящена исследованию, реставрации и реконструкции шкатулки из тополя, происходящей из кургана № 13 могильника Урысай-2. В ней находился набор ритуальных предметов женщины- «жрицы». Шкатулка располагалась за головой погребённой и представляла собой невысокий подквадратный короб с прямыми стенками и отдельной плоской крышкой. Специфический набор предметов, представлен зеркалом, бруском из кедра, «ложечкой» со следами краски, сосудиком из органики (кожа? войлок?), шелковой тканью, который дополнялся каменным алтариком и набором инструментов, найденных рядом с женщиной. В полевых условиях шкатулка была изъята блоком. Затем — выполнено МРТ сканирование; проведён комплекс работ по определению материала находок, физико-химического состава, консервации и реставрации; осуществлена 3D реконструкция шкатулки и предметов.

    Protein adsorption is essential for determining material biocompatibility and promoting adherent cell growth. In this study, we focused on the a-plane structure of hydroxyapatite (HAp). This a-plane structure closely resembles the crystal plane where apatite is exposed in long bones. We conducted protein adsorption experiments using HAp ceramics with a preferred orientation to a-planes (aHAp), employing bovine serum albumin (BSA), lysozyme, and fetal bovine serum (FBS) as protein models to mimic the in vivo environment. Higher zeta potential and contact angle values were found in aHAp than in HAp ceramics fabricated from commercial HAp powder (iHAp). Bradford-quantified protein adsorption revealed BSA adsorption of 212 ng·mm−2 in aHAp and 28.4 ng mm−2 in iHAp. Furthermore, the Bradford-quantified protein adsorption values for FBS were 2.07 μg mm−2 in aHAp and 1.28 µg mm−2 in iHAp. Two-dimensional electrophoresis (2D-PAGE) showed a higher number of protein-derived major spots in aHAp (37 spots) than in iHAp (12 spots). Mass spectrometry analysis of the resulting 2D-PAGE gels revealed proteins adsorbed on aHAp, including secreted frizzled-related protein 3 and vitamin K epoxide reductase complex 1, which are involved in cellular bone differentiation. Overall, these proteins are expected to promote bone differentiation, representing a characteristic property of aHAp.

    In this paper, the effects of various carbon allotropes on the pyrolysis of two polymers, polystyrene (PS) and polyethylene (PE), was measured by pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) and the results were compared with the results for samples without carbon allotropes. For both PS and PE, as the mass of added multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) increased, the change in the composition of pyrolysis products became more conspicuous. Furthermore, the compositional changes of pyrolyzates from PS and PE showed the same tendency for all investigated carbon allotropes (MWCNT, single-walled carbon nanotubes, graphene nanoplatelets and carbon black).

    <p>The analysis which mainly used the degradation residual for the deterioration-mechanism analysis of the polymer is in use. However, many volatilizing components are also contained in the degradation reaction of a polymer, and just an analysis of a residual may be insufficient for clarifying a reaction mechanism completely. AC-2235 analyzed the deterioration mechanism using the micro ultraviolet-irradiation system. AC-2235 is a copolymer of PMMA and PBA. From the result of <i>μ</i>-UV/Py-GC/MS, AC-2235 made it the evident to decompose both component of PMMA and PBA by the UV rays.</p>

    Nikko Toshogu Shrine was constructed in 1617 and rebuilt in 1636, 20 years after the death of Tokugawa Iyeyasu, following the traditional custom of shikinen sengu by which shrines are rebuilt at regular intervals. Several such reconstructions with paints have resulted in what we see today at Nikko. Now the Heisei period restoration work is underway at Nikko Toshogu Shrine. From 2007 to 2013, the karamon gate (central gate) and sukibei walls (walls around the main buildings honden and haiden)were redecorated. At that time, several old decorative painting layer samples were discovered. Elemental analyses including those using a microscope,Py-GC/MS and X-ray diffraction as well as cross-section analysis by observation were conducted on 11 small pieces of decorative painting layers and coating layers. As a result, it was found that the coating materials from an area under the metal fittings of karamon gate pillars are dried oil paint. Traces of 17 past restorations were found on the decorative painting layers of the sukibei walls and classified into three groupsaccording to the materials used:in the first group (rebuilt in 1636 and restored in 1654), black urushi coating and gold leaf;in the second group (restored in 1664 and 1679),chu-dei foundation,black urushi coating,and decorative paint containing gold leaf and animal glue; in the third group (from restoration in 1712 to today)bengala urushi coating,and decorative paint containing gold leaf and dried oil.

    Nio-do style suit of armor was a novel design suit of armor in the Momoyama cultural period(from the end of the 16th to the first half of the 17th century). Characteristics of this suit of armor are the appearance of a naked male body and flesh(skin)-colored coating. The present paper is a report on the observation and analysis of this flesh(skin)- colored coating and makie technique used to make the Nio-do suit of armor owned by Ichinomiya City Museum. Several elemental analyses including those using a microscope,PY-GC/MS and X-ray diffraction pattern,as well as cross-section analysis by observation were conducted on small pieces of coating layers. As a result,it was found that the flesh(skin)-coloredcoating is a mixture of white lead(2PbCO3・Pb(OH)2)and vermillion(HgS)to which dried oil was blended. As for the makie,small gold(Au)grains were used in the technique of hiramakie (Kodaiji makie)with harigaki and kakiwari, characteristic of makie of theMomoyama cultural period. In Japan,dried oil paint was first used in the Asuka-Nara period(from the end of the 7th to the first half of the 8th century),but its use was discontinued until the Momoyama cultural period when,according to old documents,oil painting technique was importedfrom Europe. Then,in the Edo cultural period,dried oil paint such as mitsuda and chang paint appeared. It is assumed that this oil painting material and technique was applied in making the flesh(skin)-colored coating of the Nio-do style suit of armor and that the makie technique was one that is characteristic of the Momoyama cultural period.

    During excavation in the center of Kyoto (O-ike site) from 2003 to 2004, many fourlobed jars were excavated. These jars were used to stock imported urushi paint from Thailand or Cambodia from the end of the 16th to the first half of the 17th century. At the same site many traditional urushi paint tools produced in Japan during the Momoyama cultural period were also excavated. Results of elemental analysis by Py-GC/MS showed that the urushi paint was composed of Melanorrhoea usitata, Rhus vernicifera, Rhus succedanla,or their mixture. But there is no idea as to what objects,other than nambanstyle exported lacquerware,imported urushi paint was used for. Analyses of five lacquerware excavated at O-ike site showed that the urushi paint was compound of a mixture of Rhus vernicifera and Rhus succedanla. This result is material evidence that imported urushi paint was used on urushi objects in Japan.

    漆はウルシ属樹木であるウルシが分泌する樹液を脱塵,脱水などの処理をした後,空気にさらし,酸化酵素ラッカラーゼの働きにより硬化させ,塗料や接着剤として用いられてきた.ウルシ属の樹木は日本の他,中国,ベトナム,タイなどに自生している.現在,日本の漆工芸で使われている漆は大部分が中国,ベトナム産である.日本では縄文時代早期の遺跡から,漆塗の髪飾り,腕輪などが出土し,古い時期からの利用を示している.漆塗料の産地を決めることができれば,漆文化の起源や,時代による交易圏の変遷を考える手がかりになりうると予想できる.漆の主成分である有機化合物の分析により,日本産の漆をタイ,ベトナム産のものと区別することはできるが,日本産の漆を中国,韓国産のものと区別することはできない.そこで土壌の源岩の年代により変動する87Sr/86Sr同位体比を用いて漆の産地推定を行うことを検討してきた.

    漆は古くから用いられてきた天然塗料で,その塗膜は艶があり優雅で美しいことから器物の装飾や華飾に用いられてきた。ウルシノキは日本や中国に生育しており,それから得られる樹液が漆液である。漆液の乾燥硬化は特殊で,高湿度下でラッカーゼ酵素の酸化作用で進行する。そのため漆液を塗装した器物を乾燥するには特別の設備が必要で,湿度や温度の管理が重要になる。そのことから漆液が自然乾燥する促進法についていろいろ研究されているがまだ本質的な改質に至っていない。本稿では,当研究室で行った漆の改質法としてくろめ返し漆やハイブリッド漆の開発について述べる。また金コロイドを用いたワインレッド様漆塗料の開発,ナノ漆の開発と,それを用いたインクジェットプリンターよる蒔絵製作法の開発など工業塗装への応用研究について概説する。

    漆はウルシ属樹木が分泌する樹液を脱水などの処理をして得られ,空気にさらされると酸化され硬化し,塗料や接着剤として用いられてきた.現在,日本で使われている漆は大部分が中国,ベトナム産である.縄文時代の遺跡から漆塗櫛,容器が出土していて,それらの産地を決めることができれば,時代による交易圏の変遷を考える手がかりになりうる.本研究では,市販の漆塗料や採取した漆液を用いて,Sr同位体比を産地決定に使うことができるか検討する.

    本助成研究の初年となる本年度は、材料の再現復元のための国内外での調査を中止せざるを得なかった。そこで、本研究の具体的な成果をすみやかに公開することを進め、大航海時代に日本国外へ輸出された初期の南蛮様式の漆器についての分析成果の発表が中心となった。
    ・新型コロナウィルス感染拡大により紙面開催された文化財保存修復学会第42回大会では、イエズス会紋章の入ったIHS書見台(類南蛮漆器)に関する科学分析と保存修復の成果について発表した。塗膜に対するPy-GC/MS分析やストロンチウム同位体比分析により、ベトナムで製作された可能性が高いことを提示できた。
    ・南蛮漆器に使用された「平蒔絵粉」は、目視や実態顕微鏡観察を用いた従来研究の手法では微小すぎて形状を把握することは困難であった。しかしながら、走査型電子顕微鏡を併用することで、実際には「鑢粉」と「消粉」が混在することを具体的に提示することを見いだしている。この研究成果は、漆を科学する会の会報誌に掲載され、石川県輪島漆芸美術館において開催されたセミナーで、安土桃山時代と現代の平蒔絵粉の形状分析について発表し、蒔絵関係者らと意見交換を行った。
    ・桃山文化期の漆液をめぐる東南アジア交易について検証してきた研究分担者の成果は、日本文化財科学会第14回学会賞を受賞した。

    本研究は資料の保存処置や後世修理が施された結果として、製作当初の有機材料にプラスして多層構造になっている有機文化財を対象としている。研究の目的は、主鎖の異なる高分子混合状態下においての各層の情報を複数取り出すためのシステムの構築にある。つまり、多種類の有機材料が混在する「複層構造の有機文化財」を少量で分析しようとした際の困難さの解消を目指し、複数の分析アプローチによる相互チェックなどを想定した調査方法の構築を試みるものである。
    2019年度は、奈良国立博物館、浦添市美術館、日光東照宮などにおいて顕微鏡を用いた拡大観察や材料分析のための基礎的な査を実施し、各地では研究者らとの意見交換を行った。また複層構造によって「黒色」を表現している漆文化財の表現技術と、促進劣化試験による形状解析によって得られていた知見を整理し、2019年10月には【"漆黒”をめぐる東西の温故知新】とした一般セミナーで研究成果の公表と普及をすることができた。なお分担者は、文化財保存修復に用いられるバインダー17に対して、促進劣化試験を行った場合の前後の構造解析の研究を実施した。

    First of all, this study showed that the difference of the population of the Ainu who were forced to work in the early years of Meiji determined the kinds and quantity of transfer Shikki (lacquerware), which were connected with Jibun Kasegi, meaning the Ainu’s willingness to work for their own profit. Secondly, the study examined the documents concerning Shikotan and all Shikki owned by the Sakhalin Reginal Museum. Additionally, coating pieces provided by the Museum were scientifically analyzed, the results of which were reported at academic conferences. Thirdly, the study clarified the kinds and characteristics of techniques of Shikki based on production areas as well as the tendencies of Shikki by production age. Looking at Shikki, the Ainu in Hokkaido were found not to lose their cultural power after 1898 when a Japanese law named Protection Law of Hokkaido Aboriginals was enacted.

    Lacquer is a unique natural resource in Asia that uses sap tapped from lacquer tree grown wild or cultivated in areas of Japan, China including to Southeast Asia have been used to prepare crafts or wares. We analyzed many kinds of historical lacquerwares by Py-GC/MS, and urushiol and/or laccol pyrolysis products were detected. Our research results have shown that analytical pyrolysis is an effective method for characterization of lacquer films. Moreover, cross-section studies demonstrated that the lacquers had a multi-layer coating structure. X-ray analyses were carried out directly lacquerwares to determine the presence of different pigments. The analyses results of historical lacquerwares reviewed that lacquer sap tapped from T. vernicifluum and/or T. succedaea lacquer trees grown on the Asian continent were used alone and/or combined as a coating material. The investigation provides scientific support for the conservators, restorers, and archaeologists of lacquer.

    Coating materials used on heritage architecture consist of urushi or animal glue mixed with colorants such as inorganic pigments. The studyof such architectural coating materials has been performed at every opportunity , mainly through inorganic analysis,visual observation and microscopic observation of the cross section of coatings, on such subjects as the pigments used in red coatings -bengala,shu(vermilion),or entan(red read)-and the gold leaf and coloring materials used to impart solemnity to mausoleums,such as those represented by Nikko Toshogu and Byodoin temple. By contrast,studies requiring organic analysis for the identification of coating materials using urushi and animal glue have fallen slightly behind due to the complexity of interpreting the Py-GC/Ms analysis results.

    In this research project, we studied three different approaches.
    The first approach was research from the point of view of the materials science. We analyzed the chemical structure of the dirt on cultural property (artifacts and architectures), and assessed the effect of enzymes which were screened by the following microbiological approach, on restoration materials. The second approach was research from the point of view of the applied microbiology using enzymes. We screened the enzymes that degrade materials, and assessed their activity on cultural property. Based on these results, we used these enzymes on-site and found that the enzymes had satisfactory cleaning effects.

    We tried the construction of the total analysis system to acquire multidirectional information from one small flaking piece.
    (1) The simultaneous detection about the information of resin and earthy colors was enabled using Py-GC/MS. (2) Developed a method to collect a fine powder-formed sample using gecko tape. (3) Method to using the sample which disappears when make a cross section sample. We collected the sample that lacquer was mixed with epoxy resin with gecko tape. Thereafter, we inspected the method that carry out thermolysis analysis.

    The analysis results of Ryukyu lacquer wares showed that lacquer sap tapped from Toxicodendron vernicifluum and Toxicodendron succedanea lacquer trees grown on the Asian continent were used along and/or combined as a coating material. Ryukyu an independent kingdom at same point in its history and traded very actively with surrounding countries. The analysis results of this study confirmed that Ryukyu people efficiently used the imported coating materials along or in a mixture to make lacquerwares using many techniques, such as mitsuda-e and hakue.

    Several synthetic restoration materials used in past restoration treatments were difficult to remove from the restored objects in these days. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is one such restoration material used as a consolidant in the 1950’s to the 1970’s; it is water soluble and transparent, and has strong adhesiveness. Removing PVA from paintings or polychromy is difficult because it tends to become water insoluble and opaque, and can cause detachment of the pigments because of its strong stickness.
    In this research, the mechanism of deterioration of PVA was clarified using accelerated UV testing, SEM, NMR, and GPC analyses. Further, it was demonstrated that PVA applied to objects could be removed using a PVA degradation enzyme.

    Many processes of making a black lacquer film exist. In order to clarify a discoloration mechanism, in this study, it was tried to comprehensively understand the ultraviolet-degradation phenomenon of each methods. As the result, it was discovered that the degradation phenomenon of black films made by various kinds of method had difference. When applying the Sugurome lacquer sap for topcoat, it was suggested that the change of surface keep little.
