    <jats:p>Abstract. Zircon is a widely studied accessory mineral that helps us understand the evolution of the Earth. The unique nature of zircon is due to its chemical and physical strength and the characteristic crystallographic zirconium site, which is compatible with rare Earth elements and actinoids. According to the lattice strain model, trace element partitioning coefficients can be predicted by zircon's compressibility of the cation site. However, the crystal structure of zircon has been precisely determined at less than 5 GPa by single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements. Here, we have precisely determined the crystal structure of zircon under high-pressure conditions of up to 19 GPa, covering the whole stability field of zircon using a diamond anvil cell. We have also theoretically calculated the unit cell parameters of zircon at high pressure by molecular dynamics simulations. The unit cell parameters and the bond length showed abnormal trends above the high-pressure stability limit of zircon. The previous discrepancy in the compressibility is likely due to the non-hydrostatic condition and instability of the sample. We determined the compressibility of the Zr–O bond and ZrO8 polyhedra based on the determined crystal structure. The averaged length of the Zr–O bond showed a consistent modulus, with the partitioning coefficients predicted by the lattice strain model. On the contrary, the model with a Poisson solid assumption is inconsistent with the partitioning coefficients. The averaged lengths of the cation–anion bonds under high pressure can help in understanding the partitioning coefficient between minerals and melt.

    Physical analyses of the Dome Fuji ice core have been carried out to reveal fundamental properties of the core : (1) Stratigraphy, (2) Bulk density by a volumetric method, (3) Bulk density by an x-ray transmission method, (4) Total gas content, (5) Permeability and bubble volume, (6) Distribution of air-bubbles, (7) Distribution of clathrate hydrates, (8) Raman spectral N_2/O_2 ratios of air-bubbles and clathrate hydrates, (9) Ice fabrics, (10) Ice grain size, (11) Laser scattering tomography, (12) DC-ECM and AC-ECM, (13) Mechanical test, and (14) Crystalline structures of ice and clathrate hydrate. In the present paper the main results obtained so far are summarized.

    星間分子雲にはアモルファス氷に覆われたケイ酸塩鉱物微粒子が星間塵として存在する。アモルファス氷を構成する水分子の多くは原始惑星系円盤への変遷に伴う昇温過程で昇華するが、その一部は鉱物粒子間の界面等の隙間に間隙水として閉じ込められると考えられる。間隙水は、同じ温度圧力条件の純水に比べて高密度で電荷の偏った反応性の高い状態にあるため、従来の予測よりも低温で鉱物の水質変成を促進する可能性がある。このことから、鉱物進化の過程を理解する上で、鉱物と共存する水の構造と物性の解明が不可欠であると考えられる。本研究では、主要なケイ酸塩鉱物の一つであるフォルステライトガラスを対象として、理論と実験の両面から高密度の水と共存する鉱物変成のメカニズムを解析する。
    これまでにガラス状態および結晶状態のフォルステライトの高温高圧水熱反応実験を実施し、初期構造に依存して生成物の構造が変化することを見出した。さらに、初期構造の変化に伴う構造相転移条件および反応速度の違いについても明らかにしている。今後はさらに生成物の詳細な構造解析を実施し、反応条件に依存した生成物の構造変化の過程を明らかにする。さらに、実験により求めた反応条件と同条件で分子動力学計算を実施し、構造変性のメカニズムを明らかにする。これらの成果を基に、水の状態に応じた変成経路の変化を示し、高密度の水が関与する鉱物の進化モデルを提案したいと考えている。

    本研究の目的は、超高真空条件におけるアモルファス氷から CO2 ハイドレートへの相転移機構を明らかにし、CO2 ハイドレートが宇宙空間のどこにどのような構造で存在するかを示すことにある。星間分子雲において鉱物微粒子上に凝集した水はアモルファス氷として存在することが知られているが、CO2 を含むアモルファス氷が一時的な昇温に伴って CO2 ハイドレートに相転移する可能性が示唆されている。これまでの研究から、CO2 を含むアモルファス氷を昇温した場合、100 K 付近でCO2 ハイドレートへ相転移する現象が見出されているが、その結晶相の構造特定には至っていない。本研究では、電子線回折法、赤外分光法、中性子回折法を用いた構造解析と超高真空極低温透過型電子顕微鏡観察により、アモルファス氷から生成する CO2 ハイドレートの構造特定を特定し、相転移機構を解き明かすことを目標としている。
    これまでに、6 K から170 K の広い温度範囲で氷試料の蒸着実験を行い、その成果としてアモルファス氷の相転移温度が蒸着温度に依存して変化することを明らかにした。さらに2023年度は、CO2 を含むアモルファス氷についての実験を進め,蒸着温度に応じて純氷とは異なる相転移挙動を示すことを明らかにしている。今後はさらに組成や蒸着速度、昇温速度を変えて蒸着・昇温実験を行い、構造変化のメカニズムを明らかにする予定である。

    2021年度は、赤外分光装置と電子線回折装置を組みこんだ低温真空チャンバーを設計・製作し、赤外吸収スペクトルと電子線回折を同時にその場観察可能な構造解析システムを構築した。この低温真空チャンバーを用いて 6 K から170 K の広い温度範囲で氷試料を蒸着し、昇温および降温に伴う構造変化の過程を解析することに成功している。この一連の実験により確立した試料生成および構造解析の方法を用いて、今後はさらに蒸着試料の組成や蒸着条件、温度変履歴の変化に伴う構造変化の過程を解析する予定である。

    本研究は、家畜骨を原料にして、産業や鉱山開発において発生する有害元素を高効率に吸着するグリーン・サステイナブルな環境浄化材料及びシステムを実現することを目的とする。今年度は、家畜骨から簡易に合成が可能なバイオナノアパタイトの結晶構造及び化学組成と金属吸着特性の相関の解明を目的とした研究を実施した。結果、家畜骨の種類や前処理温度を変化させることで結晶欠陥を制御できることが明らかになった。また、それらの結晶欠陥は材料の金属吸着選択性に大きく影響した。本研究結果は、家畜骨を原料にして、様々な金属イオンに対して吸着選択性を有する材料を実現出来る可能性を示唆している。具体的には、牛骨、豚骨が重金属や放射性物質を吸着するバイオナノアパタイト材料の原料として優れた性質を持つことが明らかになった。さらに、実環境でバイオナノアパタイト材料のカドミウム吸着性能を評価し、実際に吸着剤としての応用利用の可能性について検討した。結果、カドミウムが多く含まれる工業排液から効率的にカドミウムを除去できることが明らかになった。また、有用金属の回収に利用できる可能性を示唆する結果も得た。これらの結果を基に、来年度はバイオナノアパタイトの化学構造と吸着性能の相関に関する知見をさらに深める計画である。また、得られた知見を活かし、複数の有害元素を対象に、それぞれの吸着に適した構造を有する材料の検討、及び実地試験を実施する計画である。

    To investigate the structure and properties of ice from water in hydrogels, we measured the Raman spectra of hydrogels with various water contents. From the temperature dependence of the vibrational frequencies of the O-H stretching mode, we analyzed the structural change of water as function of temperature and water content. The results showed the phase transition dynamics of water in hydrogels.

    In interstellar molecular clouds, elements such as hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen deposit on dust grains, and form various molecules (e.g., H2O, CO, CO2, NH3, CH4, H2CO, CH3OH, and so on). These molecules undergo chemical evolutions to organic molecules through various processes on the surface of dust grains. We investigated the microscopic and macroscopic processes of chemical evolutions in space using various theoretical methods. The members of microscopic group studied basic processes of amorphous materials in molecular clouds (for instance, surface structures, diffusions, and reactions) using molecular simulations. The members of macroscopic group modeled the various reaction processes in molecular cloud (for instance, thermal desorption, grain surface reactions, and so on) using chemical network simulations.

    To investigate the formation process of clathrate hydrate in a low pressure condition, we measured infrared spectra of a vapor-deposited amorphous ice including carbon dioxide. From the temperature dependence of the vibration frequencies of the O-H stretching modes of water and asymmetric stretching mode of carbon dioxide, we analyzed the structural change of water including carbon dioxide. The results showed the transition process of carbon dioxide clathrate hydrate from the vapor-deposited amorphous ice.

    Characteristic features in Antarctic ice cores have been observed by Raman and incoherent inelastic neutron spectra, which have been attributed to proton ordering in ice structure. In this study, to elucidate the characteristic crystal structure of ice cores from Antarctica were investigated mainly by X-ray diffraction. The followings are the results in this research:
    (1) X-ray diffraction study of structure of ice crystal
    X-ray rocking curve measurements were conducted for deep sections of Vostok ice core and the dislocation density was determined from the width of the profiles. The dislocation density decreases from 10^<12>m^<-2> to 10^8 m^<-2>, as depth increases between 3200 and 3611 m. The dislocation density was lower in deepest sections because^the ice was formed by the refreezing of Vostok Lake water in a long period.
    (2) X-ray powder diffraction study of crystal structure
    The observed profiles by X-ray powder diffraction did show sample or depth dependency. The (1121) reflection which is characteristic of ordered ice (ice XI) was scarcely observed in any samples. This is because the intensity of this reflection is expected to be very low and, therefore, strong X-ray source like synchrotron radiation is necessary in a further study. X-ray diffuse scattering measurements are also important in the further study.
    (3) Lattice constants determined by X-ray powder diffraction
    Lattice constants of ice core samples were determined by Reidtveld analysis of X-ray powder diffraction profiles. The lattice constants of ice core samples are larger than that of laboratory ice and increase with the depth although they are expected to be smaller due to residual stress. The origin of this behavior should be investigated in a further study.
    (4) Raman Spectra of deformed ice
    To reveal the origin of the reported characteristic spectra of Antarctic ice, Raman spectra for deformed ice were measured. However, no significant change was observed. Thus, the deformation of ice in the Antarctic ice sheet is not a possible reason for the characteristic spectra.
    (5) Formation process of clathrate hydrate and ice crystal structure
    Molecular dynamics simulations elucidated a new diffusion mechanism of gases in ice during clathrate hydrate formation from ice. We first found that in the diffusion process gas forms a characteristic intermediate structure breaking a hydrogen bond between a pair of water molecules.

    本計画研究では、(1)氷床における物理過程を微視的なレベルで解明し、系統的・理論的に記述すること、(2)物理過程が気候・環境変動シグナルに及ぼす影響を明らかにすることおよび物理解析データから新たな気候・環境変動シグナルを抽出すること、(3)南極氷床の変動史を再現すること、の3点を目的として研究を進めてきた。
    (1)に関しては、クラスレート・ハイドレートの生成過程とそれに伴う大気組成気体の分別過程を解明したこと、ドーム位置に特有な氷結晶組織の発達過程を解明したこと、氷床の電気的性質を明らかにしこれを新たなレーダー・エコー・サウンディング法の開発に発展させたこと、および長時間のエージングで現れる新たな氷の構造が見つかったこと、などの成果を上げた。(2)に関しては、大気組成復元に及ぼす気体分子の拡散の影響を明らかにしたこと、気泡やクラスレート・ハイドレートの分布から新たな堆積速度の推定法を見出したこと、新たに開発した交流電気伝導度プロファイル法で大気環境の変動を検出し得ることを明らかにしたこと、氷床内部の反射層の原因を特定する2波長探査レーダーの開発を行なったこと、などの成果を得た。(3)に関しては、南極氷床の三次元流動シミュレーションを行ない、気候変動とリンクした氷床変動を明らかにしたこと、およびドーム位置における流動を精密に再現するために、転位クリープと拡散クリープの両方を考慮した流動モデルの開発を行なったこと、などの成果を得た。
