2021年度は戦後日本映画におけるシスターボーイとゲイボーイの表象に関する調査を行った。
2021年度の前期は、1957年に社会現象となったシスターボーイに関する調査を行った。まずそもそものシスターボーイ現象に関する研究が十分になされていないため、歴史的な調査から始めた。具体的には、アメリカ映画『お茶と同情』(1956)に関する研究、作品が日本で公開された際の宣伝資料、また丸山明宏のスターダムに関する当時の反応を示す週刊誌記事などを参照した。更にシスターボーイを戦後日本における消費社会の出現と関連付けるために、消費に関する理論や「太陽族」「よろめき婦人」など映画産業と関わりのあるブームについての資料を集めた。調査の結果を文章としてまとめ、シスターボーイを単なる表象の一形態ではなく、産業的また技術的な「スタイル」として捉える可能性を論じた。
2021年度の後期は、1958年から日本で小さなブームとなったゲイボーイに関する研究を行った。まず1950年代後半におけるゲイボーイへの社会的関心を調査するために週刊誌などの一次資料や研究者による二次資料を参照した。また第三者機関としての映倫再編に伴い1959年に制定された「映画倫理規定」などの資料を確認し、公権力と性規範の関係を理論化するためにミシェル・フーコーによる諸作などから知見を深めた。更に実際に分析する予定の作品を鑑賞し、それらの映画に関する当時の批評などを映画雑誌から調査した。調査結果を文章としてまとめるべく、アウトラインの作成を行った。
